machete vs large knife???

koyote no like serrations.

What mora said about doing it again is how I'd do it, roughly. a chisel edge following whatever line you need for your handedness. That helps with draw knifing. Make it the right width to fit your stones! With supported camping (as opposed to ultralight hiking) 'd shoot for the normal synthetic dual sided stone width plus 1/8 inch.

I prefer a 10 or 12 inch machete.Combined with a small knife or folder and it's all I need.

Sort of like this:

21" blade length, 29" OAL, .230" thick.

Yeah like that. Looks like it gets the job done with no problems.

You pretty much hit it on the head. I've seen others like it in use and it works really well so I couldn't help but get one for myself. Mine has not had a chance to get any use but I hope to change that soon enough.

I find the main advantage to a machete over a big chopper like my Steel heart or DFLE is weight and cost. I can leave the tramontonia in the unlocked truck without having to get out of a nice warm bed ,get dressed and go get it so it does not get stolen like I dig last week for my SH-E Also big choppers are a bit on the heavy side. My SH-E has a beautiful
8 inch flat ground blade that is damn versatile and whips through hardwood but it is also over 500 grams! Not bad on the quad or the truck but it is a bit much to haul up hills.
It is also a bit to big for wear on a belt as well.

A machete takes more technique which I really need to work on but is cheap and light.
I especially like my 18 inch Tram panga. I am also getting one of the shorter 1095 Ontario's like brian and HornDog have modded so well.
