After my recent (rediscovery) into the machete world I've been looking for the ultimate chopper. (obviously bigger/heavier isn't necessarily better as I've proven this with my HI's) I've got a few in mind and would like to know your opinion.

(I know this isn't the only source for machetes just using as a reference)

I have an 18" Tram. Bush machete but against my 14" Marbles and Tram. Bolos I think its to big to be as effective (at least for me)..

What do you think of the ones I've listed, in your experience what would make a better bushcraft tool and chopper. Or do you have one to recommend?

I'd say either the Condor Golok or Swamp Master, but for a real chopper I recommend the Viking. :D

WOW !!! that thing is scary:eek:

But you're an experienced user, I have limited experience and doubt I can manage that effectively and safely.. :o

D'aaaaaawc'mon! How else are you going to find out? Gotta' start somewhere! :p

Honestly using a big machete is, if anything, more natural of a motion since you let the blade do most of the work.

Hmmm, my first thought was the last one because it is longer & heavier - that definitely helps a chopper IMO. But contestant #2 there is fairly thick - they don't give the weight but it would be heavy for its length.

I'd go with #4 for weight + length = chopping advantage and #2 for a compact chopper. I don't know how sharp the Martindale comes - but you can (and should) sharpen as needed.

Martinadale and Imacasa come with a rough grind to get you started, but no actual edge. This is standard for working machetes, as it allows the user to configure the edge as they see fit.

Condor Golok, there is more mass in the front. This will help a ton for chopping. It is a very good chopper! Bolo designs are also good choppers. Also look at Imacasa 18 Inch Rozador Machete, also Martindale 10 Inch Crocodile Paratrooper Machete short but a chopper. I like my marble bolo 14"

The Imacasa Rozador is a great machete. Just be prepared to flush/sand the scales and sharpen the edge. It's unstoppable once it's tuned up!

thats looks about the same as a croc 648. i like my crocodile{british}. imacasa and condor are the same entity.{south american}i think marbles are made by imacasa as well but cant prove it. a mill file will sharped up a martindale easy. the trams need a belt sander. a bit thicker. unless you want a hump of a job fileing them. the ontario machete has lousy handles imho.
