machette recomendations

looking for feedback and recomendations for a machette:)

For the money the Ontarios aren't too bad depending on where you live. At least they do ok in a warmer environment for which they are made. I have snapped two of them here in the winter but never had any problems with them in the warmer months. Both times they had been in my trunk for days of below freezing temps then I tried to chop. Once it was a small Hickory tree and the other time frozen Bamboo.

Unless you're really in thick Amazonian jungle or doing a lot field clearing, I think the 12-14" machete is about ideal for everything else; gives you adequate reach and still short enough to chock up on and use for smaller tasks. The Tramontina and Ontario (get the thicker bladded model) are excellent bargains. Brian Andrews does an amazing sharpening modifcation to the Ontraio...

I have become partial to the martindale line myself....

I have the golok and the paratrooper....and a hookbill coming....all are monsters and just keep taking abuse.

If you want the cream of the crop, Derrick at Knifes Ship Free still has a few of the BRK&T Modified Ontario’s left.

Look here: KSF-Machete

An awesome tool with an equally awesome sheath.

Not cheap, but the best I’ve ever used, and I have used a bunch.

I'm also gonna get myself the 12" Barong Machete from CS, looks to be a good design. I also have a 14" Tram & a 24" Tram & a 12" Ontario. The trams are light & fast in the hand, the Ontario is thicker & more solid built IMO.
:)

Dude, wait for the Condors. Carbon steel, and razor sharp. I am hearing wonderfull things about em. Super cheap too!!

Not exactly a machette, but you might want to look into the Fiskar/Gerber Brush ax. It's basically a billhook with a hollow fiberglass handle. I have had good success with mine.

I believe Tramontina to be great for the money. However, as others have said, I am waiting for the Condors, and I think they will definitely be all and more of what I(we) think of them.
