Sharing the wealth... This was advertised in the local paper.

Thursday, November 20th at 10am in Borger, TX

Machine shop auction - quitting business after 35 years.

Some of the auction items include:

*Lathes, mills, drill presses
*Precision power and hand tools
*Miscellaneous forklifts, trailers, truck

Catalog and online bidding is avaliable at www.assiter.com
or call (806) 373-000

I am not affiliated with this organization or trying to advertise for them, I just thought I would pass this along to anyone looking for shop equipment.

There are 10-12 machine shops being auctioned off every day in the United States.

the loss of skilled manufacturing will eventually domino into the rest of the economy, as a service based economy is very weak and subject to the fits and falls of your suppliers. It will be the end of the Great American middle class.

Thanks for the heads up sharpstick, I'm looking for a mill...too bad I do not like near Texas.

While I don't live anywhere near TX either, I also appreciate heads-up notices like this. If anybody got on you for "advertising" then they just don't understand you're just helping out friends.

A good friend of mine just bought a really nice hydraulic surface grinder with variable electro-magnetic chuck at an auciton like this. While I already have a nice surface grinder, my friend got his for MUCH less money and a higher end machine at that.

I understand it's sad that these fellows are going out of business, but it can mean good deals for us poor knifemakers.

Now where are all the auctions in Washington?!?!?!?! :D

Thanks again,
Nick

I live in Amarillo which is only a 45 minute drive to Borger. Borger is a pretty small town (14,000 population) so I hope that a large crowd doesn't show up to bid (unless it is some of my fellow forum members).

I am not sure how many of the forum members live in or near the Texas panhandle, but I want to share as much information as I can to help everyone. I know it has been said before, but knifemakers are one of the select few that don't mind helping out other makers, even if it means more competition.

That auction site has to be one the snazziest on the net. I mean really impressive.
