Machine tool auction

Thought I'd post this in case someone is interested. I got a fax today about a tool auction Feb. 1 in San Diego, CA. It will be an online as well as an on site auction.

Teledyne Industries is auctioning a whole load of tools, though it looks like mostly heavy production CNC types. On the website it seems as though there will be some smaller tools available and some heat treating ovens. The auction company is Dovebid and their website is www.dovebid.com.

About once a year, there is a tool auction at J&L and some of the other wholesale tool places in the Houston area. This in the Pinemont area where all the guys like Wholesale Tool, Graingers, J&L, etc. are located. I usually hear of these by word of mouth and will let you know when and if I hear of any. It seems like every time they have one of these, I don't have any "resources".

Don't know why but the link listed doesn't work for me. Can't seem to find it. But on the subject of auctions in general I find that if you get yourself on the mailing lists for the major bankruptcy auctions within a couple hours drive you can find some deals. In my area more than a couple times a year. Course whether its a 'deal' or not depends on the competition come auction time. I did land me a pretty good grinder for less than the price of a motor and a great tumbler at a bit over $.15 on the dollar. Takes time but deals can be had for the patient.
