so i'm starting to think about getting a few machines i.e. drill press, mill, lathe, hyd press and so on.... not all @ once but hope to acquire over time. ? is- i'm limited in the wireing i have in my shop. i have 1-220 plug in for the welder, everything else is 110. seems nearly all the decent sized machines are 3ph and getting 3ph ran into my shop i don't think is an option. i've heard of phase converters but honestly, i'm absolutely illiterate when it comes to electricity. what are my options? or what are some good machines that'll run on my voltage? I kno some things can run 110 or 220, just not as efficient on the lower v.

3Ph is normally generated in a small shop by a VFD. They can run on single phase 110VAC, but are better running on 220VAC.

I think Stacy means "VFD"? I actually read it as "VFD", then realized it wasn't written that way.

You can use your welder's 220 plug for powering your 220 grinder - The welder and grinder most likely won't be used at the same time. With the amount of equip you're talking about, unless you are VERY familiar with electrical work, you really need to get a qualified electrician to review your shop for addition of 220 volt circuits.
