I have encountered several knife purveyors who had the policy of selling one type of knife, or offering some type of discount to "active duty military" only. A large percentage of troops in Afghanistan and Iraq are reservists. Most didn't have three to six months notice before being activated and deployed. These troops had no opportunity to order and receive one of these "special" knives because they were gone before the knife could be made and sent.
Reservists (National Guard and Reserves) have been integrated into the military on an equal basis for over ten years. Let's stop making them second class citizens. Reservists lost the "red" ID card years ago, replaced with the green ID card similar to the active duty one. It is time we treated reservists with the respect and dignity they deserve and "sell them a dang knife!"
If a knife maker won't honor my "green" National Guard ID card, I will take my knife business elsewhere! ...and I think I can make my feelings about this issue very well known amongst the troops I know!
