Mr. McClung was kind enough to respond to my EM. :)

"Looks real to me. Nice score. The C series knives were for DSS and the Colombian government and some spooks. Very rare. Not sterile though, as they were serialized!
Mad Dog"

Now for the rest of the story.....

I did not want to say anything till I found out if the knife was the real deal or not because it would have just muddied the waters trying to ID it. Cool story Bro and all that.....And I would not blame anyone a bit as I've always went by the old saw of "buy the weapon, not the story".

The blade/sheath was in a pasteboard box addressed to the US Secret Service, Attention: James J Rowley Training Center, 9200 Powder Mill Road, Beltsville MD.

The UPS ship date was March 1, 1995 out of AZ.....No return address.

The gentleman's estate (he passed several years ago) I got it from traveled in such .gov circles back in the day due to his profession so it does not surprise me in the least he acquired the knife along the line. He had some really cool stuff with a pedigree that you just don't see everyday.

As it is not really a "sterile" ATAK like the one seller said I wonder what that series should be called?

well that's good to know. congratulations. ermmm. you haven't told us how much it cost. ;)

I really did not "buy" it as it was kinda/sorta a birthday gift from the estate.

When asked I help them dispose of the more mundane items he left behind from time to time. When I do such "work" for them they discount stuff for me for the value of the work. LOL....It was a good day to have a birthday and that they were feeling generous.

They know I like the pedigreed stuff but with this knife it was more of a "here's a knife in a USSS box" type of thing.

In 1994-1995 there were ATAK's made with what became known as the "flying buttress grind/choil." The handle is representative of these years as well.

Mine looks like this, only full chrome. I've had a couple others, including an issued knife which had the two rivets in the back of the sheath loop. Those rivets secured a small piece of webbing which created a friction point, preventing the loop/ sheath from working forward or backward on your belt.

Great score on this knife.

It's a tribute to the design pattern - evolved over time, but essentially the same knife.
I only wished their prices were more reasonable!!
