Mad Dog Knives?

Actually I can name 10 right now, without even thinking from actual experience who could right now and do not and 10 is more than a few.
Kit Carson
Tony Bose,
Reese Bose,
Joel Chamblin,
Richard Rogers,
Scott Cook,
Tim Hancock,
Vince Evans,
Walter Brend,
Ray Kirk.

I wouldn't compare any of their work to McClung's. I seriously doubt they could fill orders the way he does, that would be like Rolls Royce trying to match Honda.

I know nothing about Mad Dog, but I do Know that it was Tom Maringer that brought Kydex to the Knife world. Many years before any one heard of MD. And g-10 Has been being used for a heck of a lot longer than MD has been around.

If anybody reads the Rogue Warrior series by Richard Marcinko, the first commander of the Navy's SEAL Team Six, he uses a Mad Dog in half of the books, usually the DSU-2 model. Like the owner of Mad Dog, he is also opinionated and sometimes racist; birds of a feather flock together as my old English teacher said (all the time!).

I've never owned one and don't think I ever will, but figured this would be just another interesting contribution to the thread.

God bless you, America, our allies, and our men and women overseas.

As far as Polish tree danglers being covered by warranty. Can you blame him?

Actually I was refering to Cliff Stamp, not "Polish tree danglers". Not only would Mclung not replace his knife, he refused to return the the original back to him.

There was another guy who sent his knife back to have it sharpened. After three weeks with no reply to emails or calls, he posted on the forums. Mclung was upset because the knife was not in perfect condition and berated this guy on the forum and sent the knife back unsharpened.

Would Jerry Busse replace a knife that was broke in a test like this? I don't know. Maybe, maybe not. Would he go on a tyrade about the stupidity of the tester, make fun of their country, and try to get everyone on the Busse forums to do the same? I think it would take a LOT of scotch for that to happen.:D

MD does take everything VERY personal imho, if ya have ever been to his forum ya will find the wife is just as bad lol,

He does use assistants from time to time, the infamous Allen Blade for example worked in Kevin's shop and worked on blades for him. I have no idea what he does now, but considering the past there may be issues with calling them custom knives in the traditional sense of the word which usually has some kind of "one man" condition. I never did get the impression though that he had a mass turnout. I assumed it was similar to other makes such as had been mentioned. Of course the forgers take much longer with the hammering pre-work.
