Mad Dog Knives

Well ...when you cut through all the BS, you will know that Kevin does not sells direct, only via his distributors and he has no website. Post this website ...
www.maddogknives.com

I have no dog in this hunt however there IS a website ... and it states right there on the main page "Other Knives recommended by Mad Dog (0)". It also states that the site is the "future" home of Mad Dog Knives and that the online store isn't complete!

I've never owned one of this mans knives, probably never will own one of his, or any other at that price point. If I were going to criticize someone for something like his "future" website, I would at least try to give the full story. Criticizing a well regarded custom craftsman about his (unfinished) website? That's kinda like saying a movie sucks because the popcorn was too salty.

Just one man's opinion ... and you know what they say about opinions.

Jester

Hi Jester

No sweat but can you give me the website ....... I will bring it to Kevin's attention!

Kind regards

Aubrey

It appears Steven Segal uses one against a Gerber Mk2 in a ridiculous knife fight scene in "Undersiege 2 ". So they must be good.

If I remember correctly, Steve's knife was made by Mission Knives. I could be wrong, as I haven't seen that film for years. Very similar in appearance, though.

Not a Mission Knife but a Mad Dog - take a look:

I can confirm that it was an ATAK used in Under Siege by Mr Segal.

Thanx for the website ...... www.maddogknives.com

It clearly states that it is under construction and you cannot buy anything. In other knives recommended by MD it does say (0) That does not imply there are none he recommends but as the store is under construction ....... yeeeeesh, have you guys got nothing beter to do but jump to conclusions?

Wow guys... really?

Ok, let me try to explain something here, and I'll edit my original post also because apparently some people who read and replied to my joking post were mad (crazy) dogs and this made other people mad (upset) dogs.

In absolutely no capacity did I ever think that the maker of Mad Dog knives or the maker of the website didn't think any knives except his own were worth recommending. If you would think that a maker of knives would not respect any other people in his field, I'm sorry for you because you must live around a lot of idiots to expect that kind of stupidity.

I did look for the mad dog knive's website because I wanted to learn a bit more about the product and it came up rather easily with a google search, sorry if it is not the official website, that was my assumption because of the name and layout of the website.

When I was looking through the website I saw quite a few awesome looking knives. I also saw that it was under construction, which I thought I would have gotten across in my original post by stating that a lot of the knives didn't have descriptions or even pictures. I also saw something that made me chuckle because of the humor of it, I tried to share that on this thread because I figured other people would appreciate it also.

Now seriously, everyone here has at some point in time been to a custom knife maker's website, and they normally have blank sections even when they're NOT under construction 99% of the time I see them it's in the available product section because their knives are sold out, that doesn't mean that they no longer make knives, and if anyone else suggested that I would laugh at it because I would realize it was ridiculous I definitely wouldn't stop looking at that website and no longer buy their knives because somebody made a joke about them being out of business because they are so popular their knives are sold out.

Do I think it's chuckle worthy (because of the ridiculousness of it if it was actually meant as my satirical post portrayed it) that a website has a blank recommendation website? Yes
Do apparently a lot of people here have a different sense of humor than me?
Yes
Should anyone have taken that even marginally seriously?
No, I don't see any way (even if you didn't find it funny) that you could look at what was posted and not realize it was a joke or meant to be humorous in some way.

I figured the website would be known by the people discussing the product because it appeared to me to be the official webpage, so it makes sense that other people would know what I was referencing and that it was never meant to be an attack on the quality of every single knife maker by Mad Dog knives (I also put it right in my post just in case somebody didn't immediately know what I was referencing)

No harm done ....... MD has been attacked on so many forums and over such a long time ...... as a friend I can only try to give the other side of the story and even then, I don't speak for MD nor do I have all the facts.

MD has a forum ....... www.tacticalforums.com and he does post there. It is hardcore so if you are looking for light entertainment and jokes, beware that some of the forum members are activive police and military and do lack the finer sense of humor :D

To be fair ....MD and I did start off on a bad foot. I asked a very direct question and MD assumed I was up to no good. His darling wife, Teryl stepped in and we are good friends now. Sometimes things just start of bad ..... no reason not to fix that.

Have a nice a day and if I offended any sensibilities, my apologies!!

Cheers from Africa

This doesn't have anything to do with Mad Dog Knives but I have to throw it in. If you go to the link, click on production knives, and scroll down you will see a picture of 3 EK knives. I bought an EK knife about 20 years ago. It was like the one pictured on the bottom only it had a darker finish on the handle. I left it in the campground at Yellowstone Park. You can picture me crying and cussing when I saw that picture.

I believe that the (0) refers to the number of articles under the topic "Other Knives recommended by Mad Dog".

As for Sparks test ...... let me put it this way ... anything can be broken ...... those that can, make knives ...those that cannot ....critique! I lost my respect for Spark the way he went about it. He had an axe to grind and he chose a public forum to do so ...... no upstanding where I come from.
Spark owns this public forum, so he can choose to do as he pleases here. Why do you have a paying membership if you feel so insulted by him?

Because I am mature enough to realise that sometimes we doing things that we could have handled better. I have messed up many times in my life! I have shown to be bigger than a trivial perceived wrong and still to support Spark on this forum. That does not mean because I pay I should shut up. I don't change my opinion because you don't like it .... I change it when I am convinced I am wrong!

As for doing what you please ...we have them in Africa ....it is called a dictator! Not as great as it may sound!

But I do appreciate your direct response although I am sure Spark is more than capacble of taking action by himself if I crossed a line!

Have a great day!

I'm confused. Are you saying that at some point Spark did a destructive test of a Mad Dog knife? I'd love to see a link to that thread if you have it handy.

Mike Turber is the previous owner of Bladeforums, he and Spark (Kevin) are different people. But the alien-spaceship-key-tang-notch makes another appearance :D

j3jymann, you are correct sir. Looking back at your original post now, I can totally see the humor in it that I missed the first time around. Actually it wasn't your post, but one later that referenced your post, that kinda struck me the wrong way. Don't know why I slanted my post more towards your post and not the latter post.

Guess I should have made myself clearer in that I think if your going to form an opinion about someone/something, do your own legwork and not rely on someone else s comments.

My apologies.

The Mad Dog knife used in the movie Under Siege was a rare ATAK variant called the "B" Series. Only 10 were made. They command a hefty price.
Here is a link to one; http://www.elitemilitaryknives.com/HTML/ITEMS/atakiib.html

IMHO, Mad Dog knives are some of the finest users on the planet. They are not cheap or reasonably priced for the average wallet by any means. What you do get is outstanding craftsmanship and excellent performance. Kevin is a great maker and a great guy too.
