Mad for Micarta Picture Thread

I assumed the MP1 has Teflon washers like the XMs, so your comment led me to have a closer look. It would appear the washers are indeed Teflon. I'm sure NanoOil lubes them well (I use it on all my PB and BB knives), but I've had great luck using TriFlow (PTFE) on Teflon. My WC Eagle gave me flipping fits until I tried TriFlow in it. I subsequently found it available as a liquid in a needle applicator which makes it easy to add a couple discrete drops as needed.

Actually I've swapped in phosphor bronze washers on all my Hinderers. I've documented my work tinkering with all of them in this thread.

Good work, Dale! Kiteman72 pleaded stupidity on the other thread when it came posting pics, so your double posting will get him off the hook too.

Do you like the deep-carry clip on your knife? That baby would look great with a parkerized split arrow!

Actually, I'm not real fond of it. But then, I don't particularly like deep carry clips. They hold the knife too deep in my pocket. The clip on my regular full-sized Grip is just about perfect for me. There's enough knife to grab and pull out and it still rides deep enough so it's not likely to just fall out on its own.

The BM deep carry clip is designed as well as any I've seen and the finish is OK. It seems to work well enough on my Foray. It just doesn't work as well for me on the Grip as the regular clips do. I have a chrome split arrow clip that I may put on the micarta Grip this weekend.

As far as posting pics goes, I've found that it's much easier with this new software than it was with the old setup. I just take the pix, compress them a bit, and post them directly from my laptop to the boards in full size. Don't have to use a hosting site or anything.

Got this as a kit, Micarta is one of my favorite handle materials. I could have finished it some more, but I like to rough look...

I like micarta, too, probably more than G10. There's a good bit of variety in micarta finishes. Most of mine have been rougher, like matte canvas, but the paper micarta on the Benchmade has a really good feel to it. It's "warm" and grippy, even when it's not rough finished. It seems to hold on to you as much as you hold on to it.

Agreed. On top of that, most of them tend to increase in traction when wet which is a nice bonus.

I assume you know that BMK will send you any clip you want at no charge. Just email or call with what you want for a particular knife and it shows up in your mailbox. Great service!

Yeah... they're really good about that. But I already have the chrome or silver split arrow clip in a box of BM parts and accessories that I've had for a while. If I decide to change the clip, I'll just use that one.

This one of mine is a lot like onojoe's with its green canvas Micarta Igordeds, but is a 551SBK. I love the mottled look and roughness of the canvas Micarta. It gets a little darker and slicker from hand oils with use, but a stiff brush scrub with warm, soapy water brings it right back.

I changed out the original black painted clip to the Parkerized version to complete the knife's transition.
