The grind is nice and crisp. This style isn't exactly my cup of tea, but I know that it is popular with many people. I know of a certain forum member who would love this, but only if it was in red
My criticism would be that the butt of the knife is too square. If it had a gentle curve the knife might look less like a rectangular bar of steel.
The shinogi is crisp, and the mitsukado and yokote are really precise...good job. I also commend you for keeping the bevel angles high enough. Many make the kissaki and ha far too keen. Handle is a nice looking simulation of a wrap. Something needs to be done about the rivets...maybe use black phenolic pins? The shiny steel pins pull your eye away from the nice handle and look distracting.
The thing that catches my eye the most is the butt. It is too square, and the thong hole seems unnecessary.
I think it looks good, but as others said, screws that match the handle/are more sumble would improve it, as well as rounding off the back end more. Possibly leaving the bottom, but rounding the top back corner up to the scale, to accommodate the palm grip lycosa talks about? The grinds are very nice though, good work!
Wow thank you so much for all the input. I'm still very new to this so your guidance really helps. Yeah the pins gotta go. I made this as kind of s prototype and was planning on using some flathead screws. I hadn't really thought about the phenolic pins so thank you. I like the idea of rounding one side of the butt. Also this one is .75 wide and I'm going to be going up to 1 inch wide. The bevel angle is around 20-22 degrees but after making this I think maybe putting like a micro bevel at like 25-30 to strengthen the edge.
I played around on the computer a bit. Could get a rounded off tail to look quite right. I tried a few different things. I like the first one but it looks really familiar so I figured There must be something very similar that I've seen before. The second is actually a 9 inch knife for a guy at work. He wanted the tail to have a window breaker.
