Made a knife in an hour

Today I was doing some heat treating and my wife comes in from the garden and comments on how it would be nice to have a small hawkbill blade for cutting vegetables. After my heat treating was finished I left the forge on and pounded one out of some 1084. It took me about one hour start to finish. I didn't do a proper temper on it since I wanted to have it done in time to harvest some veggies in the garden today. I have never made a knife so quickly. It was actually quite rewarding, and my wife was happy with the result.

If you all have pics of quick and dirty knives, let's see them.

I know there as a 1 hour knife challenge at some point. I like it! I think it would be a valuable exercise for reinforcing concepts without getting stuck of details.

From paring knives to machete's there are a bunch of working knives that are made very simple and very quick.
They work, but nothing special about the materials, the heat treatment, or the methods that are used to make them.

However, you take any of them. Including the one you have posted above, give them a decent heat treatment... and wow. It makes a tool really shine at work.

Thanks for the comments guys. Usually I end up spending weeks on a knife so it was kinda fun to just bang one out. I hardened it properly in Parks#50, just did a quick temper on it instead of the usual 3 one hour cycles.

buckmaster, I don't think it is in line with the forum rules to discuss price on this particular forum, so send me an email at griffinknives (at) gmail (dot) com.

Thanks
