Made a Pouch

Thanks again guys.
To answer some of the questions, the materials are 1000D cordura and nylon strapping. I used the wifes sowing machine that she got for Christmas. (regular duty) and the snaps were put on with one of those hand crimp style jobbers. Heavy-duty nylon thread. The corners were the only part that gave me a hard time.

... wow thats nice. i may have to try my hand at something like that. thanks for posting it.

EDIT: just looked at the molle back u made, thats way nice also, you sure you dont do this kind of stuff alot?

Looks good SteelJunky! I've actually just been reading online reviews for the Shark Easy Sew 32 sewing machine that's going on sale at Canadian Tire this week. I've been wanting to get a sewing machine for a while now and will probably pick this one up over the weekend so I can try making my own pouches, bags, etc. I'll just have to source some fabrics, materials and parts locally.
What brand/model of machine does your wife have?

I get my Cordura material, heavy duty nylon thread and the heavy nylon strapping (for the main strap) from AHH.biz. the lighter nylon strapping (for the edge binding and cross straps) came from CountyBrookDesign.com.
As far as the machine the wife has, its a Singer "Curvy". I don't know much about sewing machines, (or anything really), but it is new and works good for now, I guess time will tell.

absolutely well done. i have a partner that owns a tactical company that makes gear. i myself make some sniper gear for myself that is not commercially available for my mission. and if this is your first attempt working with cordura and edge tape, you might consider making a few products for sale.
we tactical tailors (not to be confused with logan d. coffey the first tactical tailor) are referred to as "brothers of the stitch". just gear queers that also have some sewing skills. when we see a need for a piece of gear, we make it happen. i sew military, LEO, tae kwon do, and boyscout uniforms. my main area is ghillie suits and sniper weapon drag bags. pouches every now and then. i will post more if the forum is interested.
like i said, you have done a fine job on that pouch. most guys cant make the molle interface. yours looks pretty good!

That is really well done. Nice work.

It looks like it would work for a number of saws on the market.

Thanks Mikieg, I cant speak for everyone, but I am definitely interested in seeing some of your work.
Making my own gear is something I've thought about for some time, and finally decided to just do it. I have some other products in the works, to be posted when completed, but I haven't really entertained the idea of making anything for sale. If I can refine some of my techniques, this may be something I consider.

Very well done. I like it when people put in the time it takes to make handmade one-offs such as this pouch.

i will post a thread on this in a couple days. i just talked to my buddy and he is sending me some pics for the thread. stay posted it will be worth the wait.

I'd be interested in seeing some more of your home-made pouches, etc too Mikieg.

Thanks for the info. I've heard that a lot of the new Singer machines aren't as durable as Singers of the past. Too bad, to me Singer is to sewing machines like Kleenex is to tissue paper or Q-Tips is to cotton swabs!
I had to drive to 2 Canadian Tires to find my Shark. The first one was sold out but they checked stock and I picked it up at the 2nd store. Now I just have to go to a local craft store to buy some good quality thread, needles, etc. Got any recommendations on thread brands/types for sewing these types of gear bags and pouches made of denier nylon, etc?

You should post over at "sheaths and such" under "Related" forum...there's always someone coming along inquiring about nylon/webbing/custom work.....us leather guys just say....huuuhhhh?????

Ok, when are you going to start selling these?!!! Please let us know!

Pull up www.diytactical.com for some good info and help for projects like yours. I did a leather pouch for mine before finding that website. But my sewing machine isnt heavy enough to tackle some of the big projects.

this is my 306w. pretty bad ass machine. but if you want totaly bad to the bone you need a 40's era indistrial singer. this is the one my buddy uses for his gear company. it came out of the levi's factory.
