Managed to sneak out for an afternoon yesterday...I wanted to shoot a vid on making a debris hut shelter ..and I also snapped some pics for the forum

First I cleared the area, Measured out a space a little longer than the length of my body... and thatched a bed of pine bows I harvested from fallen branches

Next I lashed a tripod of poles using some 55o I found lashed to a tree, and place the the ribbing onto the sides

Than I used my poncho to gather loads of leaves and transport them back to the shelter site

Laid a thin coating of leaves on bothe sides for the deomonstration but inreality the layer would need to be at least 2 ft thick

Than I place some bark fro storm downed hemlocks to make water shedding shingles

Here's some other pics fro the day

Nothing special..just a great day out doing something I love, Thanks for looking

Nice shelter. Any day you can make some time to practice your skills is a good day. With as many shelters as you've put up I bet they don't take half the time that they did when you started?
I see you're still rockin that Bk7 from your last video. How do you like it for sheltercraft? I have one of the older ones from Camillus and found it to be a little small for a chopper and a little big for a bushcrafter but a decent compromise for both (paired with a folding saw).

MD....It's the BK-7 has been my Go to blade for a while now.... I couple pair it up with a locking sak (with a saw) and a folding saw... It take some getting used to as the size is a "tweener" as you mentioned..But I find if gripping the very bottom of the handle and using a snapping wrist motion (like a leuku) its fairly decent for light chopping and limbing...and with practice I now can make decent feather sticks,, and notched trap parts no prob with it... infact I find I barely use the sak for detail work any more..and the thing splits wood like crazy.. so if you can adjust to the compromises it comes as close to the "do-all" kn ife that I've found.....So far...
Yeah the shelters are getting quicker...LOL but not fat enough yet they are always a good amnt of work

If anyone is interested I did 2 step by step videos as I made this on my youtube channel bushcraftbums...feel free to check it out and rate or leave comme nts as yous e fit...

Thanks for the comments guys...best regards
