Made in China?

Jacknife,

Thanks for the post, I too went out and bought a 382 and fit and finish is good, excellent walk and talk. CJ, I can understand you position on having to farm out to China, but you have made sure fit and finish is on par with US Post Falls material. I have many Buck knives, the truly old slip joint that says Buck on every Blade and 3 pins in the handles. 22 to be exact, have a fair collection of 110 and 119 also. I believe Al would be proud of what the company has accomplished thus far. I will continue to support your organization long after I'm gone, thru the eyes of my son.

I just wanted to add that I was given a Buck Trio (373) and thought it was beautiful and solid. Then I noticed that it was made in China. My knee-jerk reaction was "well poop" but then I decided to look it over and make my own decision. There was nothing at all wrong with the knife. It was very sharp. It didn't have any goofy slack or gaps anywhere. In fact, I would say it looks every bit as good as a USA Made Buck slipjoint.

Even though I try very hard to make sure almost every knife I buy, as of late, is made in the USA, this one isn't bad. The Spyderco Tenacious that was given to me was made in China and it's one of the best liner lock knives I've ever used.

I think any country can make very very good quality products when/if it's people choose to do so.

I don't like to buy stuff made in China just because that's me, but I just wanted to make sure I mentioned that this "gift knife" I received is really nice.

Thanks Drew! :)

As to a timetable I will say that you will notice almost every one of our 2009 new products are USA made. When you specify a high quality level, and not all our imported competition does, it costs more. It also costs more to develop long term relationships with factories and factory owners who are proud to produce your product and seek to improve year after year. Some of our competition moves from factory to factory getting the lowest price and the resulting quality inconsistency is what you get from that policy. You can disagree with a country but you have to love and respect the people. We have great partners that have become trusted associates over the last few years.

I do not see us "pulling stuff back" as much as carefully evaluating products and when we can get close in cost out of our own factory we will focus on US made instead. Delivering value to our consumer is the deciding factor. Right now, in this economy, our focus on USA made new products means more folks up here in Idaho stay busy. As much as I respect and admire our import partners the success of our own folks is top priority.

On a side note, we had a perfect attendance drawing last thursday where we have a cash prize drawing and to get your name in you have to have a perfect quarter (3 months) without missing a day. We had a number of folks who did not miss a day all year. I was quite proud and told them so. We took a picture for our company newsletter.

I'm with the others who were surprised, and somewhat dismayed over seeing some of the Buck knives marked "China". That said, I bought my son one of the 371 Stockman, and it is every bit as nice (actually a bit nicer fit wise) than my two 301 Stockman knives. I'd still choose the 301 just because it's made in America, but I have to admit there is nothing wrong with the quality of the Chinese Buck.

For me, price and quality have little to do with it. China makes (some) great stuff at great prices. Here's the deal: America is dying. The factories are gone, and the machines are gone and the people who know how to do it are gone. When WWII arrived, within weeks, thousands of factories were able to change over to support our military. That cannot happen now. If you stop and spend the next ten minutes thinking this over, you will see that we are in deep trouble. I have a lot more to say, but.....:grumpy::grumpy::grumpy:

They make cheap crap. You get what you pay for.

dont get me wrong ..
i like usa made stuff also jest as much as many!
BUT
i have to disagree with you that they make cheap ...ugh junk..
you can get cheep junk from ANY country in the world
i have gotten some cheep junk and some NICE stuff marked china.
the buck knives that come from there are GOOD quality!!
i was given one and used the snot out of it as a tackle box knife and
GEE it was up to every thing i expected with the buck name on it..
and was inexpensive enough that if it fell off the pier i would not be tempted to jump in after it..
i am not saying you have to buy them
but it is my experience and thought that what buck sells is not JunK..

care to eloborate, maybe with some observations, a comparison maybe:confused:
heres one for ya,
1) my buck alpha dorado (USA), one of my daily carries (2 years now) came shaving sharp, locks up tight, no blade play and its beautiful:)

2) My sons Buck Nobleman (import), came shaving sharp holds the edge, locks up tight and looks cool...:)
End Result: both are Buck and both are quality knives way different price points though.
see that was a comparison based on experience not just a trolling blanket statement

I stand by my statement.

Everyone has a right to their opinion.
However, with only 8 posts and making a blanket statement like you did, it looks more like you are just looking to stir the pot...
Perhaps you can give an example of what you are talking about.

By making the statement you did in the Buck subforum, you are saying that the imported line of Buck knives is junk...

I wish everything we consumed was made here in the U.S, unfortunately it isn't and probably never will be. So the fact that something is made overseas DOES NOT automatically mean it is junk.

...hmmmm...I been thinkin'...

Mr numbers..
yes he is likely wanting to generate lot of comment.
and he has some what..
but if he is as extrema in his thoughts as i have been in some of mine you have little chance of making a diff in his beliefs..
note he had not approached it from a point open to discussion ..
he knows what he "knows" and it dont make any diff to him what others think or have to say long as he thinks he can control some of the discussion..
thus you are justified in believing him a troll..
all i got to say of him and his kind is:
jest nod your head at the right time to the little public servant lizard that brags of T'rex ancesters as he can loose your paper work..;):D
that and see the above sign..

I'm not going to waste any more time on this thread. I gave my opinion, if you don't like it that's fine.

some times it is not so much what you say as how you say it..
i know as i am guilty of it my self some times..
many times
if you temper your inner thoughts with examples and reason
rather then using wording that is emotionally charged
you will get nice responses..
no you wont get folks mad and have them posting in response to you..
but those that do will respect your thoughts much more...
quality of response is better then quantity..
trolls want what you got..
to make folks mad..

times i have also made some folks mad but was not trolling ..
jest shooting off my fingers while angry..:foot:

if you give thought out logical reasons for your thoughts welcome back ..
