Made in the USA

334dave--
I apologize for steering this thread in a political direction. My wariness about trade with China comes largely from my concern about the situation in Tibet. I also feel threatened by China; some have said that the 20th century was the American Century, and the 21st will be the Chinese Century. I am a big fan of Buck knives, and I respect the Christian faith of the Buck family. I also appreciate your courteous post.

To answer a few comments/questions in this thread. With the exception of maybe 3 or 4 of our domestic products all USA made buck knives use 100% domestic components and of those 3 or 4 I mention a few of those parts come from Australia, go figue it truely is a world economy we live in.

I have forwarded this thread to our Marketing folks and I have first hand knowledge that they are aware of the issue that our Customers would like to know country of origin by looking at a catalog or a package, it's being looked at. On the subject of outsouring Buck has been bringing in offshore product for about 5 years now, our critera is that it has to meet all of Bucks current quality standards and be worthy of our lifetime forever warrenty, which they do.

I think a key fact for this thread to know is that right now Buck employees close to 300 USA employees which is higher than the years prior to sourcing
products off shore, in a nut shell the company is stonger, able to create more American jobs and still offer our customers choices of 100% made domestic product as well as high quality imported price point knives.

Howdy Phil D.!
What do you do at buck? I don't do nothing but try to stay off my wife's last nerve sence i retired! Any way i am glad you have chosen this thread to post in again sence it has been quite a while between post for you!
Yes, Buck has put more people to work then they had before and it is very comendable! (cal has not been busness friendly for quite some time! )
I also have gotten over my shock at non usa buck knives jest as many buck fans have. And I have found the quality is good on all buck knives no mater were made!

I have issue any more 'only' with stamping of USA on a product, which said use of is reagulated by federal law.
I have posted link's (note one needs to read both links) to said laws in another thread(but will send again if needed for clearfaction), but jest incase i have missed something, i feel it is verry much in order and very

OK to set me stright on the ATS-34 blade issue...

So i have the following 2 main issue questions and if i am wrong I will make it known to every one I was wrong in my belifes...

1st-do you import the ATS-34 stamped steel from overseas to make blades from? I mean it is a Japan trade mark, yes?
Note: now i am not asking how much work buck puts in/on it at all, i know it is a lot to temper and form or stamp a blade... no, i am asking = were is the base sorce for the ATS-34 steel...?

2ed-is it stamped USA on the blades that are made from the steel that carrys the ATS-34 markings? in the old web site i recall haveing seen ATS-34 stamped on the same blades with USA or am i all wrong here?

thoes are the questions i pose to you...
i would normanly expect this to be political or law forums but this is buck form and i do not collect other brand name knives at all only bucks and a very few hand made custom knives ...

i realy do under stand a lot of issues and have been involved in conterversy my self (in nuclear power issues) and did not like it at all ='s damed if i do and dammed if i do not, so no answer is realy required at all you see and mostly that is the best way to go... i will go away on to other subjests and this thread will drop in rateings on its own and only be seen in a few weeks by thoes like me that surf the old threads for gems to dig up and learn from... if you realy want, email me an answer that will remain privet and then forgotten and deleated if you want.

yours most respectfully
in west virginia.

I'm new to this forum and to Buck knives. I am also a watch collector and in that hobby it is pretty much useless to Buy American as watches are no longer an American thing, but in that I can decide to not buy Chinese. China is a communist government and make no mistake they are an enemy, they hate use, and it's only a matter of time before we are at war with them. Their own people say it over and over again from time to time. Just Google it if you don't believe me. Unfortunately our government and busness leaders have put us in a terrible position with them and it's so hard to not buy Chinese sourced goods in almost any sector. If you have kids try not buying toys made in China. It's impossible unless your kid is doomed to play with old fashioned wooden toys.

Anyway, in the areas where I have my personal hobbies I try to either Buy American or at the least not buy Chinese. I went to Walmart, the king of Chinese goods, and walked to the knife counter and asked, "okay, which knives here are NOT made in China?" There were some nice Gerber and other knives - all made in China and I don't care how nice looking I won't buy them. Buck was the only ones stamped USA and Idaho on the blades so within the 2 visits to that store in three days I bought 2 Buck knives - one very large non folding hunter with aluminum handle and a smaller lock folder with plastic handle. Both Made in USA on the box and USA/Idaho stamp on the blade. I plan to buy more.

If I start seeing Made in China or elsewhere on Buck knives I will stop buying Buck and go completely custom from American artisans. Hey, we all have to pick out battles and with mine it's in my hobbies and discretionary spending. I want those funds staying here or with our allied nations. I have no problem with Japan steel in some applications but I prefer American made in something like a knife. I also detest anything made in Mexico, another leech nation which dumps their people here and is allowed to do it without giving us cheap or free oil as payment. Thanks politicians!

So in closing, please keep as much Buck product as possible Made in the U.S. of A. You can still produce some cheapo Chinese models for those who price is the only object, but a growing number of the educated consumers are starting to care about this stuff. I will gladly pay more for American made product.

God Bless.
