Made in USA

Benchmades, Zero tolerance, Some kershaws, alot of Bucks, Some Spydercos, Microtech. Alot more than you'd think. Im probably leaving out a bunch.

Are we to assume you mean comparable production knives?

Great Eastern Cutlery
Canal Street Cutlery
and Queen Cutlery

come to mind.

Buck and Benchmade were supposed to bring all production back to the US. Kershaw still makes most of its line in the US, Spyderco has a few models made in the US.

Great suggestions, I guess the Chinese Bucks I saw at Academy today were the exception rather than the rule.

Any sports shop is going to have whatever companies pay them to stock, and whatever is most popular amongst the general population (read cheap). My suggestion is to find a price range, then check out a couple of online knife dealers, then google/use BF search function for whatever catches your eye. Much research will help you expand your knowledge and tastes even without having some of the knives in hand.

Yep. They have been moving everything back to the USA. There are still some Buck knives made in China, but it is now a smaller percent of the whole. You can tell which ones are USA made and which ones are Chinese made by looking at the Buck web site or checking the packaging.

At one point, 30% of Buck knives were made in China. When they moved to Post Falls in 2005 they started moving production back home. Not sure what percent is now made here, but as of 2011 77% were USA & 13% were Chinese. Should be even better than that now.

Here is the deal: Many, many knives are still Made in America. BK&T, KaBar, Ontario, ESSE, Gerber, Blackjack, Buck, Benchmade, CutCo, etc... etc... . BUT.........MANY people just do NOT want to spend over $10 or $20 for a knife. To cater to these people yet still make money off of them, most all of the above mentioned Mfg's ALSO have a cheap/er line made in (fill-in-the-blank) some other country, just to compete with the crappy import knives, yet offer a better quality product for not much more money.

We have a relatively new store in our area: http://www.madeinamericastore.com/?gclid=COOugKTrhbkCFe5QOgodog4AzA . Great store, yet EVERY SINGLE PERSON I KNOW that has been there says the exact same thing: "OMG are they expensive !" Many simply can not afford to buy American. Others say "you can't afford NOT to buy American."

Not to start a war, but I can not for the life of me see the problem with knives made in other countries. I have a couple of Chinese made Kershaws that are some of the best made knives I own. The steel and the overall construction of those knives are top notch. You would be hard to find anything wrong with them. They are not Sebenza's, but they did not cost me hundreds of dollars. Yet, they cut and sharpen up as good as any Sebenza would. I also own my ninth Toyota, which has over 300,000 miles on it and have never had the engine or the transmission gone into. I also own several pieces of foreign electronic devices that operate flawlessly. Bottom line is that I am as pro American as the next guy, but will buy with my dollars what I think is a quality product that meets my needs and wants. Everything I bought or buy has helped provide some American down the line with a job and an income. Your thoughts and idea's may be different, and that is your freedom in this great country. It also does not make mine wrong either.

Blessings,

Omar
