made my first beercan alcohol stove!!

@runningboar: looks excellent and that foodcan rest for a pot sure beats the clothesholder thing

@thaumaturgist: yeah know that site, that might even be the orginal site where i got the idea from to make one of those myself a few years ago. The time between an idea and actually doing it allways takes alot of time with me :D

There is actually a design that doesn't require a pot stand. It uses aluminum beer bottles.

I am trying to build one that the flame pattern is small enough to use a 700ml titanium cup that fits on my Nalgene bottle. That is the biggest obstacle for me. The popcan stoves all have a flame pattern to large for the 700ml. I will post up some picts as I go.

Let's try to keep this thread alive... until we come up with the perfect DIY alcohol stove.

I've seen a video regarding that....I have made a few of these too. If time is no big deal, I just use a wood fire rather than carrying the stuff for this. They don't seem to work for me if cold or wet outside. Am I doing something wrong?

Looks pretty good, and they work well in a real pinch (At least that is what I have heard) If you ever test it on anything, be sure to let us know!

The stoves on the A.T. I saw last year were about half alcohol and half other stuff. The still growing popularity of ultraliught hiking is making these little homade stoves super popular agian. They are pretty standard gear on the hiking trails anyway, much better than just in a pinch:D They work very very well if weight is your consideration. If cooking time or simmerability then something else is better.

The proper ones have in inner chamber and outer walled chamber. The heat from the flames on the inner chamber vaporize the alcohol in the outer chamber and force it out of the small pin holes. After a few minutes the inner flame will extinguish and you'll be left with a cool little alcohol stove.

Thats how I build mine. Wish I still had the little red bull can one I made a while back to show you guys.

but i'd like to be good in building a minimalist can stove with just a knive (and maybe a nail or needle for the holes)

I have use a leatherman micra for the whole building process. The scissors were good for making the precise cuts and for making little folds in the wall of the bottom half so the top would fit over.
