made my first knife...

Hey, no problem. Remember to have fun!! Starting out for me was a blast, but also frustrating as my lack of patience got me frustrated. Good thing is that I'm stubborn and kept at it so that I've got somewhat of a handle of things now.

I'll encourage you to ask questions often, and use google to search bladeforums by typing your query followed by site:bladeforums.com. Don't take any of the advice you get here (even if some of it comes across as impatient or abrupt) as a discouragement, but add it to your knowledge base. Make a folder on your computer, and copy/paste helpful posts into it. Collect methods for heat treating from guys like Kevin Cashen, Mete, Fitzo, and Bladesmith (among many many other helpful makers). Above all, though, have a good time. It's very rewarding once it all falls into place, and it feels good to create a blade you know will pass the tests of use, appearance, and time.
