Made my first knife!

Chuck...You should be very proud!! That is a great looking knife. And, of course, being the maker, you know where all the "flaws" are. The rest of us are just admiring the craftsmanship! Outstanding work.:thumbup:

good on ya:cool::thumbup:

Looks like a nice little knife.:thumbup:

Most impressive though, is your honest approach to what you're happy with and what could have been better. With that attitude, they can only get better.:cool:

Nice work.:)

Youve got a great eye for design. Love the blade shape and that bolster. Looks really handy. You're a natural at this.

Wow! Thanks everyone! Yes, I am bitten but good... :rolleyes::cool:

Within a year, I want to be in a position where I am making knifes as a paying hobby. My next one will be made from an old file. Is it OK to braze a rod on to W2 for a stick tang? I don't think I want to try and weld it. (By that I mean arc weld. I don't have a forge furnace yet).

Next, I think I need one of these: http://blindhogg.com/eerfgrinder.html. Does anyone know of any other free plans for a belt grinder? How about a good place to get variable speed motors? I am looking here: http://www.treadmilldoctor.com/trea...8TVB42hVD7w6WSJJMpyL6SH6MwPsn16qq!-2029898948. They have a 2.9 HP motor for about $200 and speed controls for $100. does that look usable? I know I will have to build a shield around the motor to keep debris out, but let air in. I don't think that's a problem. I need the grinder to be as cheap as possible, but still be functional for hard use.

All the best!

Check out my "other" making thing at http://whistlemaker.com.

at this point, you should head over to the knife maker's forum for the nitty gritty:D Love your enthusiasm!

Congratulations. It's a very gripping hobby isn't it? :p
Nice work!

I also looked at your whistles. Those are fantastic. Nice tone...
