Made my First Knives

Congrats. Looks great. Now prepare to say goodbye to all your free time. Also a great way to get rid of any of that pesky dispoable income.

Nice work.

I will tell you that the thumb ramp jimping on the sycamore handled hunter will eat your finger like a saw. I would carefully grind it smooth. When most of it is gone, you can leave just the bottoms of the groves with flat tops if you want a traction ramp.

Ya I left it aggressive with the plan to knock the tips off but the guy it's for liked it so I left it. That's a really small knife so he will likely not use very much.

Well, I finished making my belt grinder and heat treat oven

I'd appreciate hearing more about your DIY heat treat oven. Can you share some pictures, links to plans/discussion, ball park estimate of costs? If you have any lessons learned and things you would do different that would be helpful. This is one of my next projects.

I'll put together a thread with some pics and info. I tracked everything very closely. I also made a tilting grinder that works quite well.

To make the oven I leached off Doug Comeau's website. His site is a wealth of info with very detailed info, picture and plans. I give him huge credit for whats he's put together.

This weekend I'll put something together and start a new thread on the oven build.
