For a Khukuri or something like a Tamang or other lighter knife?
For the lighter knives, how about using a clip like this?
here it is on the middle sheath (not my knives...)
the second picture shows why I like these better than a plain belt/boot clip, you can rotate this one to the angle you want then tighten it up so it stays there for the draw. This allows you to carry a knife horizontally or in a boot just as easily, same sheath and all with no hardware changes.

Had to dig for this one a bit - I don't believe that kydex sheaths are as popular as leather ones when it comes to HI kukris - I guess the latter is a bit more traditional and fitting or something.

As for the attachment method, I like warty's suggestion. Being able to rotate the sheath slightly for the draw is very handy for kukris. Also, if it's a larger kukri (18"+ OAL) I would definitely consider adding attachment points for a baldric rig or maybe MOLLE clips to attach it to your pack (assuming yours has them)
