Years ago there used to be a magazine out called American Survival Guide if I remember right. Anyone remember this mag? Anything like it out there today that I'm not aware of?

i used to pick it up at the book/mag store locally. it was a really great mag. too bad it went under years ago, i guess no-one wanted to survive after the Y2K bust. The only thing that comes close now is Backwoodsman.

As far as i have understood the situation with ASG is that it went electronic and can be subscribed to online. i loved the publication and followed it closely until it just went away. on some forum this was addressed and i followed the link, still havent subscribed but here it is.

the way you can tell its the same people is that the structure of the front page is the same as the old paper version

sorry guess i was late to the punch while looking for the link.

a day late and a dollar short.

If you were a subscriber to ASG (Self Reliance Journal) when it quit, you got rolled to Backwoods Home magazine to finish out your subscription. www.backwoodshome.com They have a small forum too.
There's a bunch of magazines that have a "survival" section somewhere.
Go to www.outdoorlife.com , they have a survival tip for the day.
Even www.backpacker.com has some survival stuff.
After Y2K, ASG was like Chicken Little, saying the same thing, showing same stuff.

STORMSTAFF - "Anyone remember this [ASG]mag?"

Remember it??

I have every copy but three, 237 copies, from the beginning to the end. ;)

Thinking about putting the entire collection on E-Bay.

Back in the day i used to buy ASG. Even when it was just plain old SG (1982?).
But in its last 2 years every ASG cover photo was a closeup of an AR-15 or full frame shot of a 1911A1.
Same angle but with a different background cover.
This repetition got kinda confusing.
Especially when you are like me and you sometimes just buy an issue and tuck it away to read later.
Finally after a few months i would end up reading 2 or three issues back to back.
Picture this i'm at the newsstand
"hmmm do i have this issue? This one has a closeup of an ar-15 on the cover, but is this a new issue with yet another AR-15 on the cover or just the issue i already have?"
For their last two years i am missing some issues and some issues i have multiple copies of .lol!
I am going to pdf all these back issues someday.

Man you should keep 'em.
But if you decide to ebay them let me know.
I would love to acquire the issues i'm missing, especially some issues from the first 5 years.

I'd love to fill out the gaps in my "Survive" magazine and "Practical Survival" magazine colections as well.
Most people have forgotten about those mags.

I remember ASG. I subscribed to it for a few years in the late '80s. I would study each issue like some people study chapters of the Bible.

I have a few stacks of ASG in the Garage I thumb thru from time to time, next thing could be wilderness way, backwoodsman, fish&fur is a cool magazine as well, and a number of online items

I used to read ASG alot, and still have several issues... Scott Stoddard was working on an article on my knives just before they went under. I bet if they brought it back and did it right, it would probably do better now. It got pretty bad at the end.
