Magic: Hanson, Long, Coop Style

I can't recall seeing that on a DH3 knife. Don, (if you are there) have you done that?

Would definately look good on this knife, but its beautiful as is.

Butt caps are definitely the exception to the rule on Don's knives - I gather that's his preference - but they do show up every so often:

I find certain naked butts arousing, but not any so far on knife handles. This otherwise magnificent knife with no terminus features seems slightly unfinished to my old eyes. Don't even need a full cap as per Roger's suggestion, just a small round of Damascus covering the pith. Ray Richard finishes some of his antler crown handles this way (wrought iron), and I rather like them.

But this not about me, and I'm happy if your happy.

you are a funny dude, Ken:thumbup::D

Gorgeous stag, wicked blade, w/Don's hamon magic.
This,to me,is a great looking fighter and Paul knows how to dress it up.
Coop's pics are as good as it gets and what we've come to expect.

Congrats Joe and thanks for sharing!

Thank you , gentlemen for the kind words, and thank you, Joe for your continued support. It's very easy to dress up one of Don's knives. They all seem to talk to me.

I'm happy. Happy with all the positive comments from everyone. Happy that Don, Paul and Coop are all so talented at what they do and are so easy to work with. And, I am happy with the natural look of the stag.

I have mixed emotions about butt caps on stag. It depends on the piece of stag, and it depends on the knife as a whole to me. The art-side of most of us would say this would look better with some type of cap, partial or total. But, the user-side of some, including myself, might say the natural finish of the stag gives a more raw fighter feel to the final product on this knife. That is what I wanted.

Sounds like a good topic for discussion at some point. ;)

You have to see it in person.

As I unfolded this knife out of the pouch and wrap, I immediately looked at the stag end. After about three seconds I broke into a smile. The pith is rich in color and variety, and the knife is just fine without it. I also think it gives 100% focus on the hardware in the middle and, in return, those parts really stand out.

Another case of the 2-dimensional photo NOT doing the knife 100% justice.

Paul: Don's knives make me look good too. Lights, click, edit = superstar. It's easy..... ;)

Riad: This hamon needed no tricky photography voodoo. That's the way this one is.

Did anyone catch those little gold pins in the stag?

Thanks again. :)

I've been out of touch for a week, or I would have jumped in here sooner.

Thanks for all the comments, they are very much appreciated.

Even without fossil ivory, this little fighter is a favorite of mine and pretty close to the one I would keep for a personal carry piece. Just in case a few ribs need tickling. Joe accually stuck me in the ribs with that very sharp point (accidently) while possing for a photo in the shop :) It was a light poke though and the stiches come out soon ;)

Butt cap or no Butt cap? It's all good! I have done a few but usually prefer a naked butt :D (good one, Ken) Joe and I felt this one just didn't need one. Although a very thin and non-obtrusive cap would have also worked here.

The core on this piece has been filled with a hard setting glue and polished, so there's not a soft center..........for someone to unconsciously pick at, while watching TV :)

Joe, Paul, Coop, Thanks, it was a pleasure!

Coop touched on something above. A butt cap can throw off the visual balance of a knife. They can also help or hurt the physical balance. This is a very light blade and needs no extra weight in the handle.

Jonathan, Riad is right, this is really a mini-rib tickler. But, it works great as a rib counter. Just ask Don. :D

I have always liked the looks of a "Long Clip" Bowie blade! Add a Paul Long sheath, and you have instant Classic! Well done Gentlemen!!!

Not a bad pic either there Coop!

Gorgeous blade, to-die-for stag, first class sheath and awesome pic. I am more or less out of adjectives.

For my personal preference, I would have liked a nice damascus butt cap filed to match the texture of the stag to finish things off.

Roger

I don't usually chime in, letting the more knowledgeable collectors critique, but I concur. The thought that came to my mind was, "It's unfinished".

UNREAL!!! Both knife and sheath..The sheath gives me something to shoot for..Thanks for posting those beauts!!
