Maglite AA tactical switch

Just to clarify, the X5 is NOT regulated. Its merely resistored down. That means that the brightness at 20 hrs will be pathetic and you'll most likely want to change the batteries at 1/2 that or maybe even 1/4 of that if you value quality light. The light is a bit outdated and Inova knows that. As such, Inova has updated the light, which is sold as the Inova X0. This contains a 1w luxeon.

For reference, here's a runtime plot of the X5:

If you have only a passing interest in quality flashlights, pass up the LED conversions for the mag2AA and just get a streamlight jr. luxeon.

With the Opalec LED conversion, the Mini Maglite seems to have the same intensity than with the incandescent bulb. However, the brightness (intensity/surface) is lower with the LED conversion because of the beam divergence. My first impression is the LED conversion is better for low range lighting (until 5 meters like in the house, car...) : the beam is white, more homogeneous and very well definite. Beyond this distance, the incandescent bulb is more effective thanks to a better beam collimation.

I will stay with the Opalec conversion because I don't except a high distance lighting from a Mini Maglite and in this case it is the relevant solution.

Nevertheless, I'm very interested by the Streamlight jr. luxeon (you make me know many new flashlights !!! :D ). Is the LED electric current intensity regulated ? How good is the focusing reflector ?

Recieved my two Streamlight Jr. Luxeons the other day.
One is slightly blue and the other one is almost white but has a verrry slight green tint. The center spot on both is square shaped, the one that is slightly blue, less so. In fact I didn't realize it was square untill I had the other light right next to it. What little tint the lights have is in the outer part of the beam. On my other led lights (5mm) the tint is in the middle of the beam.

Just for reference my other l.e.d. lights are an Arc aaa LE, an Arc aa with lithium cell, and a Streamlight 3c 10 led light, I have also had two Opalec lights(lost them both). I also had a CMG reactor Luxeon, that light was definity green tinted and was returned to Galyan's. I also compared an old 3c maglight to my new lights. I was mostly comparing for "throw" but was surprised how much brighter and whiter these little lights are. The spots seemed similar on a light colored brick wall on a well lit street.

Anyway, I'm pretty picky and I am pleased with both of these lights and can recommend them considering the short time I've had 'em. Patrick
