I thought it was great when it came out (around 1988 if I recall correctly) but advances to flashlights have improved by leaps and bounds. I have a Maratac AAA light that works about 100x better and is the same size. I gave my Solitaire to one of my daughters.

I like the indistructable form...... but I can't believe you can't buy a .5 watt cree drop in at Walmart. I think they really missed the market there. I'd by a solitaire for $7 and then i'd buy $10 drop in. That would be a good profit for Mag.... one would think.

Ever since I got an ARC AAA, I took the bulb out and use my Solitaire as a spare battery holder.

That should tell ya somethin'. :)

For the price, you cant beat it.

Exactly! It may not be THE brightest thing out there, but it is the highest bang-for-the-buck micro-sized flashlight out there.

The 2xAA Maglight is another less-than-$10 flashlight that is very-well-built and really delivers bang-for-the-buck.

I have a solitaire I used to keep on my keys, however I replaced it with a Photon Microlight. It's good for those times when I take the dog out and I have to pick up poop in the dark and I forgot to bring another flashlight. I wouldn't buy any Maglite products anymore, not with all the other affordable and dependable options on the market.

I had one on my keyring until recently, I lost it somewhere, while it wasn't the most spectacular laser light show, alien heat ray, zombie killing, ninja blinding superlight. It produced more than enough light for anything I ever needed. But, seing as how they run $5 or so at Home Depot, what do you lose?

Maglite in general makes great flashlights for nothing. I have a 2 AA Maglite in my car that I've had for ten years or so(I've had it since Cub Scouts). They have essentially a no questions asked warranty, if you somehow manage to find something to break they fix it.

I still use my 4 cell d Mag Lite with an aftermarket LED drop in, they make a great product, includin' their 2 and 3 AA LED Lights but for the Solitaire size gimme my ARC AAA any day.

If you're carrying a light, you may as well carry the type which best meets your utilization requirements and cost outlay.

If that happens to be the Maglite Solitaire, that's great!

Absolute crap, as far as I'm concerned. I can't remember how many of those I went through when I was a kid. Several anyway, and countless bulbs. If they had the Arc AAA when I was young, it would have cost less than what I spent on buying and rebuying Maglite junk and have been happier for it.

A Solitaire is $10 from Walmart. You can get a Fenix E01 for $15 shipped from 4sevens. The E01 is brighter, lasts longer on a battery, has a much tougher finish, and the bulb won't break when you drop it or ever burn out in your own lifetime. Why anybody would buy a Solitaire is beyond me. Even an Inova or Photon keychain light is superior.

Colour rendition would be the only positive as opposed to the majority of cheap keychain LED lights that have a very low CRI and makes everything look blue/purple.

I could never go back to one after the ARC AAA P I keep on my key ring or the Maratac AA that is on the night stand.

How on earth were you able to locate crap Maglites? You must probably have some form of superpowers for that.
My Solitaire is tough as nails. Somehow I manage to drop it few times a week but this far, nothing has happened.
Or maybe they just export considerably superior merchandise:D
Seriously, one happy Maglite customer over here. Recommend for everyone.

Mine worked similarly. It was never a steady light for very long, even with a new battery. I only owned two of these but they both worked poorly.

I remember being disappointed they didn't work as well as Maglight's 2 cell AA light.
