Magnacut is coming to town!

How's the edge on your scout?

Mine is a chip magnet, sharpened it out twice now and it still wants to get micro chips all over the edge. Idk if I got a bad one or what.

DBK guys broke one, and so did one guy on Facebook while other one has same issue like you do...

So far I'm really missing to see what's special about that steel...

Hmm, not liking what I see here...

Hopefully just child diseases related to heat treat.

It will be interesting to follow this steels real life use behavior as more and more forumites gets their hand on it.

DBK break everything; it’s part of the appeal. They admit much of it is abusive, but that’s the fun of it. They’ve broken 3v on there too…

What vid was that, what blade was it?
I can’t remember. It may not have been DBK bit a different channel. Point being, all steels can break if you push them hard enough or if there is a flaw in the steel. I’ve personally broken a thick 3V custom prying with it. Poor heat treat or steel flaws are the usual culprits.

I haven't been hard on mine, just started a few fires in the backyard so far. Feathersticking, light batoning, firesteel scraping. Never had another knife chip doing any of that.
Yeah, but at high price - expectations go up too. Magnacut is really hyped and expensive.
Hopefully just child diseases related
Most likely, the steel has just hit the market, so that's to be expected. We need more time for more trial and error to perfect it.

Broken 3V on their channel? Which knife? I must have missed the video.

Yep also there was an imperfection in the blade.
L LostCause it was a QC issue, not magnacut.
That is true, but it can also be possible that they still haven't found the best way to work this steel without creating flaws.

I haven't taken mine our to do any real work with it yet. I'll keep an eye out, though.

Liam Neeson. is. MagnaCut.
When justice needs to be served, he's got the edge.

Has the superiority of Magnacut as a game changing knife steel been established and accepted generally then" Or is this steel still just the latest cool thing to use for knives?

At one time, 44C was considered a superior steel for cutlery.

More recently, the S30VN-S35Vn and S45VN series were the premium steels.

So is established that Magnicut all that much better, or is it still up in the air?

It's still unknown. It'll take some time for manufacturers to perfect the HT and manufacturing process itself.

My only experience with it has been negative so I guess we'll have to wait and see how it does when it's more mainstream and companies like spyderco are using it on multiple models to get a better pool of users posting results.

I hope I just got a bad one, I'm really wanting some magnacut knives because of how corrosion resistant it's supposed to be. Hoping for some FL worthy knives out of it.

I've seen a couple videos where they do crazy stuff like standing on the handle while the blade is stuck in a tree stump, batoning into bricks and frying pans, and firing bullets at the base of the blade. Those guys clearly know that they are just making entertainment videos for clicks.

Anyway, I do keep hearing wonderous things about the edge retention of magnacut...

Not really sure whether the hype is justified. A corrosion resistant steel with amazing edge retention and it's still easy to sharpen? Sounds too good to be true.

Can I buy stock in Magnacut? I want to get in early so I can sell it all when the market gets hot and CRK starts using it for sebenzas.
Magnacut to the moon. Everybody hodl.
