MagnaCut Mule Resales

I was perusing a site today that starts with an "A" and offers many consignment knives available for sale, with updates daily M-F. I noted a Magnacut Mule with Halpern titanium scales and a leather Spyderco sheath available for **cough** $375 ***cough** **cough** bills. The seller is nothing if not optimistic and the sale or not certainly does not impact me in the slightest. Still, a part of me hopes that knife is in their consignment inventory for a long time to come.

Well, factoring in the 25% he has to pay to ACK for the seller's fee minus the $60 to Halpern for the scales, the seller's net is around $215, which is not that far out of line considering that blade only MagnaCuts are still selling for $200-250.

Frankly, the seller would be better off selling it on EB where a MagnaCut w/black Halpern cales and a Spyderco leather sheath just sold for $300 because even EB's & PP's fees combined aren't as high as ACK's. So, if he sold it on EB for $300, he'd still probably net more than he would on ACK.

FWIW, I've offered to trade my MagnaCut for another designated Mule (see my signature line) w/o absoultely no interest. So, I may be "forced" to sell it w/the 20CV Mule that I also wanted to trade away, as soon as I get around to deciding which other knives I want to sell to pare down my collection.

I'm in no rush to do this -- it's really a PITA to prep everything for sale -- and will get around to it in a couple months or so.

I wish spyderco could have done a forum pre-order or something before the open sale. I couldn't get one but hoping the military gets the treatment.

The demand for this mule is somewhat unprecedented. Traditionally it's the mainstream models such as PM2 that generate the most anticipation, and then when they offer a unique and desirable scale color and a steel that pushes the limits of edgeholding.

The purpose of the mule program is to evaluate the steel before they start using it in their normal production models. I'm sure we will start seeing it in production models soon, I've read that it has been mentioned for an upcoming Manix 2 LW. I think some of the qualities of this steel would suit the geometry of them PM2 and the Military.

The 1st planned Spyderco MagnaCut release has already been revealed to be a yellow FRN Native 5 Salt.

I would have loved to score at least one. No such luck....and I would rather die than pay an instant 100% mark up, so I guess I'll just have to keep using my existing knives.

I threw one of mine onto the passaround, honestly it didnt garner as much interest as i though it would. Be happy to keep it going. Leads me to think most of sales went to flippers.

Hey remember that Slisz Bowie? Lol
