Magnacut salt native 5

Lol I've been on pre-order forever as well. Honestly I had forgotten about it. I have plenty of other Magnacut blades, so it's not very exciting anymore.

Heard they had some problems with the MCut reacting to the hardware, like lockbar and/or pivot screws in salty conditions 🤷🏻

FYI, finally received my MC Native 5 Salt over the weekend. Preordered Jan of 2022. Better late than never!

Haven’t put it through the paces yet, but we shall see!

My plain edge MagnaCut Native has been with me long enough to go on a fishing trip. It's like any other Native, just with MagnaCut. I've also reprofiled it down nice and thin.

Man, I really lucked out and found one at a gun shop near me that carries Spyderco. I went there planning on getting a N5 Maxamet that I knew they had for a while. But when I got there, I immediately noticed the bright yellow N5 Salt that wasn't there last time I was in. Guess which one I got. Anyway, I'm not into the neon yellow,, so I picked up some blue Rit and dyed the scales. Now it's an OD green N5 MagnaCut. Oh, yeah, I already have the Spy27 N5, so I swapped the black hardware from the Salt onto the Spy27 and visa versa. I wish I could post some pics here. It looks sweet with the chrome clip and screws on the OD green.

I've only had it a couple days so it hasn't had much use... yet! I did re profile the edge from the factory edge to 15° ps. That took a while. Funny, because I have a Deka in MagnaCut and it takes no time at all to re profile a couple degrees. I've read that Spyderco is getting theirs to around 62-63HRC. So I'm guessing the Deka is probably in the upper 50's, maybe 60HRC. Just an observation and food for thought.

Anywho, thought I'd share what I've noticed between two different brands' MagnaCut. I'm not at all surprised that Spyderco has the better heat treatment.

For those that want knivesplus has the nonserrated also have the RIT dyed options for only $20 more! I got the fade and it came sharpened and very happy with the purchase. The stock yellow scales appear a different shade of yellow compared to my Dragonfly Salt scales.
