Magnamax Is Available!

Do not get me wrong I am totally pleased with this AEB-L. I would not trade it for anything. But I also like Magnacut so I might as well try out MagnaMax if given the opportunity. I really like this knife shape blade and handle.
 
That style is very versatile.
As soon as I convince myself we are living in the golden age of knife steels and nothing could be better, another great steel comes along, lol.
Looking forward to giving Magnamax a go as soon as my order gets here.
 
Man, the more I hear/and learn about Magnamax the more excited I am to try it!

When I said it smells like money in the previous post I meant my money flying away, lol!
($180 for a 36” piece).

Now I need to come up with a design for a 2” OAL Knife so I can sell it in the $100 KS and recoup my investment!🤣
 
I will be able to get five of a variety of styles from a bar if I keep the overall length under 7 1/4 inches.

Of course, one or two of these will be cut up into test coupons.😖
 
The first MagnaMax knife is profiled, I’ll spend most of this evening running test coupons. If all goes well, I’ll be able to heat treat and temper tomorrow. If I’m not satisfied with what I get I’ll be cutting up more coupons tomorrow morning to fine tune what I’m after.

Tests went fast and well last night. So much so I ordered more. I’ll be running my Magnamax at RC 64.
 
Yep, all is well. I ended up running a LOT of test coupons (like 42” worth). Learned a lot, but could not refill the dewar because the truck is down, mechanic can’t get to it for a couple more weeks. So, I had to improvise, bought a cargo rack for the back of my minivan, modified a metal trash can to carry the dewar secured in that, and FINALLY today carried the dewar out and filled it. Tomorrow will be HT/cryo/temper day. I have 3 magnamax ready to go, a half dozen procuts and eight or ten AEBL. 👍

The second m-max order looked “different” so I repeated all the tests just like the first to be sure of my results.
 
The second order’s surface was cleaner, so my thought was that the first order had mill scale on it. I’ll post pics of both tomorrow. The test coupons from both orders acted/reacted the same. New steel, so I wanted to be sure 👍
