I love using them, too once in awhile just for fun. I like the kind of hot flame you can get from them; it is kind of fun to do.
But like Mist said, you have to be a masochist to love using them all the time.
Yeah, they're a great backup to keep with you and I always have a Doan's bar on me when I go out for emergencies, but I prefer a Going Gear firesteel for actual day-to-day fire starting. They're fun, too... and a lot less work.
As far as easiest to scrape, I'd guess Doan's would be as easy as any. Just as an aside, the little firesteel striker from Going Gear makes neat little shavings from a Doan's bar, and strikes a good spark from the embedded rod, too.
