Harbor Freight has a 100 Lbs pull one for around $4.95 that I have used for a couple years now. I put a strip of Gorilla tape across the face of it to protect the steel.

...i have quite a pile of filings. has anybody a use for them? i just have problems throwing away anything i might be able to use!! i guess im an incurable packrat about somethings or mabey a bit ocd! oh well!....thanks,willy
Placing the magnet on the flat of the the blade and grinding the opposite flat. Helps you flatten the metal or doing tapered tangs.Can someone post a picture of how a magnet is used? Are they ment just to catch metal filings or more?

Unless of course you forget to dip and try to take the blade off the magnets... I won't be doing that again!...delays the heat getting to your fingers for a while.
