From the gee-wiz atomic structure department... The highest temperature super conductor was incidentally found in a ceramic. It seems all of the super conductor materials being tested were sorted by characteristics and any ceramic type compounds were put in the "also ran" bins without being tested for conductivity. An interning engineer decided to test the ceramics. I do not remember the source but do remember the fact.
