Fellas I want to buy a jewellers loupe for inspecting my edges. Any suggestions as to what magnification would work best for this?
Thanks in advance.....

I'm sure you'll hear lots of answers.

Partly depends on what you want to see.

For me, I want to see light reflecting off an edge to see if it that edge is really sharp or if it has been damaged, or is not yet sharp enough. For that use, I find a 3x or 5x works just fine. The lower magnification gives me a larger field of view, so I can see more of the blade at one time and get an overall view of the extent of damage or lack of sharpness.

However, if you want to evaluate for type of damage, you will need higher magnification than that.

Most people find 10x to be the best all around compromise on magnification and easy of use and focus.

5X works for me on burrs. But I'm beganning to like 10X as well to really see the edge angles.DM
