Craig,

I got my 20" AK today and it is one magnificent khukuri! Words cannot really do it justice. The detailing is absolutely perfect. The wood handle is beautifully executed, accentuating the nice graining. The blade, about 9/16" thick, is also exceptional. But you really have to handle this khuk to appreciate both the workmanship and the heft. The overall length is about 20 and 1/2 inches. However, as beautifully crafted as this khuk is, I would not recommend it for anyone of slight stature. I'm a bit over 6'1" at 200 plus pounds, and it's about all the knife I can comfortably handle.

The sheath is of heavy leather, and like the khuk itself, well-crafted (as are the chakmak and the karda) so it should be up to the task of hauling the heavy AK around.

I plan on giving the monster a workout this weekend on a pile of oak firewood. I'll let you know how it goes.

Mainly, I just wanted to let you know that, as far as I'm concerned, the 20" AK is a real winner!!

Thanks

I figured a large Khuk in the lineup would serve Craig and some of the bigger users well. Personally, I have a 19" AK from HI and don't find it TOO BIG to use though I wouldn't want to carry it around. This despite being only 5'3" and 130lbs. I am developing a lineup of khuk's of my own some I can have the "right" one for the job at hand.

Now, Craig... the jump from the Panawal to the 20" AK is too much. You need something to fill the gap... like an 18" AK.

Sing: Well, you are right. Actually, I'm planning on ordering more 15 inch Ang Kholas (which I think you'll hear about very soon from somebody - after the UPS guy gets there), and yes, an in between AK. I'm not a super big guy, and I think that an 18 inch AK would be about all the knife I could handle (carrying a distance, extended use, etc). My 20 inch AK has done some great chopping, but I carried it all of about 10 feet to get to my pile of wood!

The real test of the AK will be consistency of edge hardness. Mine is holding up fine, and I am curious to see if all the AKs that find new homes perform as well.

Craig,I received my 20" Ang Khola also. Been busy lately, haven't got a chance to use it. It is a beautiful knive. I totally agree with Steven F's description about this being a large knife made for someone over 6' and weighing over 200 lbs, also with large hands. It fits me perfectly. Can't wait until I get some time to try it out. Thanks again.
