The main thing they seem to be advertising is being cheaper than their competitors because of the MIM. In a Facebook post I think was deleted they said the carbide structure is a “hair more coarse” than S35VN. If it is indeed very cheap maybe some will bite but it’s not going to excite me.

A rarely seen glimpse of Shawn Houston, DeadboxHero DeadboxHero , in one of those rare moments when he's not building (non MIM) custom knives...

I felt it was nice to put the history in one place.

I was enjoying the deep dive.

I think it highlights the importance of Bladeforums, there's so much history that would have been lost to time if it wasn't for this place.

It's been educational, Shawn, to say the least. We all owe you our gratitude. (And Larrin, of course.)

(That said, are we no longer bustin' on each other via post, text or phone call? I'll do my best to honor the cease fire...while it lasts. ☺️ )

This is like 6 years ago, so... Not really new. With SHOT show coming up I thought we had a sneak peek.

Wouldn’t this process have some of the weaknesses of metal casting, i.e. weakness?

Re: being cheaper, it sounds like a lot of steps to make the material and a lot of energy used heating, but what do I know.

Everything you need to know right there........Thank you Larrin.

The BH vid referenced CARTA results that claim superior performance for the MIM S35 , in both ER and impact .

If overall toughness is also better , that's very impressive .

Still , these initial prices are novelty / bling level . IMO .

But, if it's anything like plastic injection molding cost-wise , it could become very cheap , if mass produced .
