Did a twelve mile loop hike today near Lake Wappapello Missouri and the Maguas came along for the ride. Wanted to go light because it was July in Missouri and hotter than two rats screwing in a wool sock. Those little knives are perfect light hikers.
I wanted to get some miles on the Maxped Condor II and try out a couple of other gear items. A lot of people don't care for the way the Condor carries, but I love that pack. Fits me like a glove and I don't find the straps uncomfortable at all. Another thing was the Magellan "No Fly Zone" shirt treated with permethrin. The bugs were really bad and it seemed to do a great job. The wife wore one as well and although she resorted to the head net a mile or so down the trail, her shirt did a great job of keeping the skeeters at bay.
The Magua was virtually weightless on the belt....
....and The Boss's rode snug in her pack.
It was a rocky, hilly hike but any day in the woods is good.
Beautiful lake views along the way.
...And saw some interesting sights. Like this old graveyard we spotted just off the trail.
Several Civil War vets but you could barely read the stones. Someone had a new one put up for this fellow. Rebel pride.
A little girl's stone..
We spent a half hour walking around and trying to read them then headed out. A few more interesting sights.
Like a tree with two faces...creepy no?
Two hundred billion spider webs.
A ton of these on the ground.
The trail widened out and we got a little breeze off the lake, which was very nice for the last few miles.
Overall a great hike which would be awesome in the fall. We didn't see any hogs or snakes but several deer. I was pleased with the shirt, the pack, a nifty little water bottle carrier (you can see it in the first picture) and we love those twin Maguas.
Thanks for the great knives Tim. And thanks for looking!
