Mailing Knives ?

Hey not to change the subject but how do you become a knife dealer?

I have shipped knives with the USPS many times, and just answer "no" to all their questions. I have never had anyone press me for details of what I am shipping, but would give some kind of vague non-threatening answer like "tools" or "gifts". I make sure everything is well padded and securely wrapped with a mile or two of tape. I have however, been hassled by UPS for shipping knives... got all sorts of prying persistent questions about my package. The A-hole wouldn't let me ship it when I reluctantly said it was a knife. I told him politely to F-off, and went to the post office and successfully mailed it off at half the price.
If possible for you, I would go to a different branch. Sometimes going at a busy time helps too, if you can stand waiting in line.
Oh, and I always insure the package too. At least I figure that I would have some sort of recourse if things went wrong.

I participate on the trading forums, and I ship via USPS Priority, with delivery confirmation. I as well was told by a clerk that insurance was a waste of money, and delivery confirmation tagged packages are handled the same.

Never had a problem shipping a knife; never been asked what my package contained either, just if it was hazardous or flammable.

I say don't volunteer information, and if someone asks you what's in the package, just say it's a tool. it's not a lie, and you avoid the potential of them marking the package as a knife, which is a statement saying 'steal me please' to a less than honest USPS employee.

UPS is a hassle, and a lot more expensive than USPS. I'd use Fed Ex, but they don't have any locations that are easily accessible.

Code3 and others who have commented on insurance being a waste of money... how so? I was under the impression that this would give you some sort of recourse if something went wrong and the package was "missing". I'd like to think I was paying for more than peace of mind.
