Does anyone have any tips on sending a knife to England? I did a quick search here and on Google, but didn't find what I was looking for. I'm sending a knife to a friend of mine, and I just wanted to know if there's anything I should be aware of. Taxes (on the receiving end)? Customs? I'll be sending this properly packaged and insured and all that jazz; I want to make sure this gets to him without a hitch. Knife in question is a UKPK btw :) Thanks in advance for the help!

Sent Numerous Knives to England--Europe-Germany-France-- USPS Small Flat Rate Box..
Value must be claimed low of course NOT TO RED FLAG the countries Customs. I always claim Camping Tool or Kitchen Utensil

I really steered clear from doing international ship..But it was ok..Just took a bit longer. To France--Possibly 7-10 days..
Also make it clear to the BUYER---As I always do..
After DEAL is struck
You as SELLER Claim NO RESPONSIBILITIES after deal struck and you have shipped and provided very clear instructions FROM Buyer and provide buyer with tracking number.

Shouldn't really be an issue. We have had one instance where a UKPK was confiscated as a gravity knife, but as it plainly does not lock, I think the buyer was able to appeal and recover the knife. Locking knives should have the pivot done up as tightly as possible to avoid any possibility of being confiscated as a gravity knife. Duty/taxes will be for the buyer to pay when he collects. Any goods valued under £15 is free of Vat and Customs Duty. VAT is payable on goods valued between £15 and £135. Vat and Customs Duty for anything over £135. The VAT includes the basic price plus shipping costs. For goods over £135 customs duty is an additional charge but it is waived if the duty comes to less than £9.

I have shipped many times.. I always declare " camping tool" and 25.00 value..

I make the buyer know I take no responsibility.. however it still makes me nervous, cause I would hate for someone to lose their knife to customs..

Tough to claim camping tool on a 300.00 knife.. and sometimes the shipping costs more than the value of the " camping tool" you are shipping:)

Thanks for the tips! Trading internationally can get messy sometimes, but I know that behind that there are countless smooth transactions. I'm glad I don't have to deal with the added stress of a trade.

Thanks for summing up all the important bits for me, that really helps  Do customs regularly inspect packages, or is it random/depend on value declared?

I would hate for anyone to lose a knife (or any product for that matter) to customs too! Thanks for the tip.

Okay, am I right in saying that declaring a lower value is to avoid fees and/or inspection? I'd like to do this right, and post it with correct info and insurance. Like parbajtor mentioned, I'm not too worried about running into problems with customs, since it's a UKPK and all. I just feel a bit silly about the VAT that my friend will have to pay up for a gift...then again I guess that's normal in the UK. And I believe last I checked the USPS Small Flat Rate box is not insurable or trackable.
