I am currently deciding between a clip point or wharncliffe blade on the GEC #57. I am planning to whittle with this knife and I don't have much personal experience with it. I understand that the smaller thinner blades are more useful than big bulky blades but as a main blade I am wondering what would be more useful. The secondary blades for the clip are pen and coping and the wharncliffe secondaries are clip and coping. What is a more useful combination in your opinion because I haven't had experience with any wharncliffe blades before.

Read the Which Pattern of Knife is Best for a New Whittler? just bumped to page 1.

If you are new to whittling then I dont think it will make a huge difference between clip and wharncliffe.
But, I do prefer thin wharncliffe blades for whittling because the lack of belly in the blade makes for a more deliberate cut.
Either will work just fine though.
I have the #57 Wrangler with clip main, spey secondary and punch, and the clip blade does everything I need it to do.

The only thing that can tell you which is better for you is your own personal experience. My personal experience has shown me that the combination of blades on the wharncliffe Geppetto is more suitable for me. Others will feel differently. That's why they make both.
