Main duty camper fixed under $50

I just purchased the SOG Field Pup and I love it. I have other more expensive knives, but the Pup is sharp, feels good in the hand and is just the right size for most cutting chores around the shop. The only negative was the sheath sucked and the knife cut into the side within one hour of purchasing it.

Not to worry I was in the mood to make a new sheath, Mine was ten times better.:p

Marble's has some good, Carbon steel knives for around $50 as well as Orion. Think they would outperform many of the knives you have listed.

Is it strong enough to take a misbaton and not have something break or bend said:
The sheath is not the best, but it does the trick. I have never tried to baton with it, as I have never had any reason to baton in the wilderness. I can always find small kindling and don't want to risk breaking my knife while doing something that it wasn't meant to do in the first place.

The field pup is a really good knife and the sheath on mine is still working great.

I gotta disagree on that. The M2000 should baton at least as well as the Buck. Why would you give the Buck the advantage? Lower grade steel (opinion) with an inferior grind. The M2000 was designed as a woods knife.
Although I am a huge fan of the Mora, in this case I think the Buck is a wee bit stronger overall. If it were my choice and still somewhat in znode's budget, I would use a TAK or RAT 5 as my main camp knife. The fact that we disagree is what this forum is all about:)

Buck Vanguard - or, just a tad smaller - great for pocket carry - a Buck 110 lockback folder.

Another vote for SOG Field pup, great knife.

Well I do believe Bear Grylls used one on MvW. If it can survive him it can't be too bad. :D

The fact that we disagree is what this forum is all about

 This forum is solely devoted to my agenda of Moras taking over the world. Where did you hear this nonsense about disagreeing? :D

Mora

Cheap and a great knife. To me they are built to work and be worked hard. You also lose the "twinge" factor that you have with a more $$$ knife. If and when you are stuck in a situation where you have to baton, pry, dig or generally abuse it, you will.
