Main use for your EDC?

Sadly, the main uses for my EDC tend to be opening mail, and cutting open boxes we recieve (I work in the hotel industry). Maybe once a day I will get to do something really exciting like cut a rope or some heavy packaging. Just curious - what are the main cutting jobs you guys have for your EDC day-in and day-out?

My EDC gets very similar uses, although I can add bagels to the list. Weekends provide a much larger variety of uses. I'm an RC hobbyist, so I'm always cutting fuel lines, zip ties, and stuff. Day hiking and fishing on the weekends puts the largest strain on my knives.

Well, my EDC gets used a lot. A typical day would be cutting rope or twine, tending fruit trees, opening dog food cans, opening the mail, killing a few flying insects, and sharpening pencils. On the weekend, we could add stripping some wire, opening dog food bags, digging weeds, and trimming the dogs' nails.

I use my EDC to do the following:

I cut twine when bundling up bushes and stuff that I trim around my yard.
I open envelopes and packages.
I make Tiki Guys out of the old toilet paper rolls.
I cut nylon zip ties.
I sharpen pencils.
I whittle.
I trim lose threads hanging off of clothes.
I trim sharp plastic parts on toys which have not had it done properly.
I keep one velcro'd inside the drivers compartment of my vehicles in case I need it to cut a seatbelt in a crash.

That's a bit dangerous to trim a dogs nails with a knife. They make nail trimming scissors just for that that make a better cut, and are safer at the same time.

I am pretty much the same as the majority here. I love opening my mail, even when they are bills. Then I go to work and open boxes and cut plastic bags. Whenever I see someone struggling to open a tightly sealed box, they look at me with puppy dog eyes... and fishing/camping stuff

The one thing I proud to use my EDC for every day is this;
The nicest stall in the men's room at work has a broken latch. I meant this stall is nice... baby changing station with wet wipes acts as a table, never-out toilet paper dispenser, air vent directly above toilet, motion sensor air deodorizer directly outside of door, removable suspended ceiling tiles to hide the daily newspaper, satelite music, in the most private corner of the gentleman's lounge.
anyway... since the latch is broken, nobody is ever in there. I go in and stick my EDC in the broken latch to lock the door. The stall is now my own private office.

I, too, am always on the lookout for loose threads to cut - mine or anyone else foolish enough to get close enough to me so I can inspect their clothing. It has gotten to the point where I am the designated "knife guy" in the office (as are most of you, I bet) and people track me down during the day to cut and/or open stuff they have.

cutting open boxes, breaking them down, cutting open shrink wraped pallets, cutting plastic bundle strap, cutting a pastry for coffee break, cutting an apple for luch (different knife for food)

Many of the same tasks as above. It is also there for the emergency that you hope never happens. Especially in places were CCW is not allowed.

Food packages, battery packages, CD wrappers, cardboard (we recycle alot) and whatever else i happen to need it for while i'm out and about.

I mainly only use knives at work. Maybe that doesn't count at EDC, but for me, that's about the only time I use knives consistantly.

I work at a newspaper warehouse. I cut bundle straps, plastic stretch wrap, tape, boxes, paper jams in the machines, and other random stuff.

When I am giving guitar lessons, I only have to use a knife as a screwdriver to remove or tighten the screws on a guitar jack plate. I use a keychain SAK for this.

At home I only use my knives to cut open boxes full of knives I ordered online.

Hair, isn't the newspaper industry great for knife guys? So many things to cut everyday. :)

I use mine to cut open alot of boxes open. Some time I need to cut rope for different things at work, but that's about it. And I get to use my multi tool at school alot, for cutting wire for my electronics class.

Everything from having a guard Pit in a come-along with one hand to cutting it loose from thick rope with an edc with the other so SWAT teams can make entry, to multi-tools sawing through walls to rescue peoples animals and everything in-between.

Zip ties, computer packaging, boxes, envelopes, clipping magazine/newspaper articles, and apples/oranges. That's the usual stuff.

Slash n dash
Slice n dice
Cut n run
Stab and jab

but mostly just cardboard, tape and my fingers

opening mail, cutting open plastic packaging, cutting twine, bagels, apples, hot dog sticks for the grandkids, whittling whistles for the same grandkids out of reeds. I get by nicely with a sak, and an Opinel.
