  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Main use for your EDC?

Cutting open packages, trimming twigs off trees. Not exactly ninja stuff but serves my humble needs.

In addition to the day to day stuff, I like to do some wood carving with mine. That ranges from simply peeling Bark off of "would-be" walking Staffs, or to cutting out places for copper inlays, or for finger grooves etc in the Staffs made.

I give the blades a good workout, and wood working has taught me the invaluable resource you have in having the sharpest edge possible.- Until I started that hobby, I had never even come close to starting to sharpen an edge correctly.

Not saying I am the sharp master - I've got a lot to learn about sharpening, but wood working is helping me to learn the difference between "feels sharp" "IS sharp" & the wonderful realm of "Remains Sharp"

whittling walking-sticks in and for the woods
cutting and buttering bread and rolls
cutting my steaks and my sausages at lunchtime
opening and closing my one-hand-knives and thinking I am the greatest:D

Well, I mostly use mine for opening the mail. My MiniGrip or Mini Pika, because it is so pointy are usually employed for this. I also use mine for cutting out clothing tags. You folks probably do not even suspect this, but clothing tags grow back, and must be cut out repeatedly.

Next use is cutting tape, as it seems I am always boxing up something or repairing something. I don't like getting tape residue on my higher end knives, so I carry a Kabar/Dozier folder or similar for this. I call it carrying one knife for Show and one for Go.

A few more things I can think of are opening cellophane packages of things like golf balls, CD's, and some toys. Tougher plastics I wuss out and use the scissors for safety. Occasionally I'll cut a sandwich in half or string on clothing. That's about it.

Seeing all the food-cutting reminded me of the reaction I get from my fiance when I whip out my edc and cut a sandwhich, apple, etc. - she refuses to eat it. Seems to think it being in my pocket makes it extra dirty or something. Or perhaps she has seen it open one too many dirty boxes, etc.

That's a bit dangerous to trim a dogs nails with a knife. They make nail trimming scissors just for that that make a better cut, and are safer at the same time.

Well, I switched to a knife after having too many "accidents" with the trimming scissors. With a knife, I get a better feel of where the quick is. I trim back in thin little slices and shape. Could probably use a file, but it would take a lot longer. Also, I'm not talking about little dogs. By the way, I trim my toe nails with a knife too. My wife says I'm living proof that Neanderthals are still around :)

opening boxes mostly, getting clean cuts of duct tape, and cutting sheets of sandpaper or scotch brite pads

To ride in my pocket and look purty!! ;) :D Actually, not too far off as I tend to cut very little with one of the two edc's I carry. It has been between a Rukus and a Skirmish, and now there is an AR in the mix. These three are carried because I like the fact that they are some of the top knives and you just don't run into a lot of folks who are carrying anything like I can pull out of my pocket. I guess it is a pride in ownership thing. This doesn't mean that I never use them as I do, but usually for a small task, and usually just to elicit a response!

You guys have it covered what I use my EDC for, and what I plan and or may use my EDC for.

Processing deer and wild boar, fixing horse gear, preparing "asado" (Argentinian barbecue), cutting rope, fire wood, cutting accident victims' clothes, opening new trails in the forest, you get the idea.

Working outdoors and in SAR operations rocks! I have the perfect excuse to spend lots of money on sharp and pointies.

At the office I use my SAK and multitool mostly.

Mail, Boxes, Cereal boxes and that kevlar bag inside. Pencils, taking the memory card out of the digital camera, chips bags and energy bar wrappers.

Food occassionally.

I love the zip sound that my knife makes when opening a package of chips.

I use my knife at work to trim or strip wire, trim ABS and PVC pipe open boxes for water heaters, disposals, toilets.I use my knives alot, fishing camping and so on.
