Hello all, I want to plan a weekend campout to maine..I have done some online looking but wanted the opinions of guys that have actually gone there..

I would like to be somewhere near the coast, even on the water if possible. Anyone know of any good state sites on or very near the water/coast?

Dont mind going all the way up to north maine if need be...if its possible i prefer a less crowded place also..(I know I am asking alot..)

please post or email me with any/all suggestions..?

looking at next weekend or the week after at the latest...

If you want real seclusion try the Maine North Woods. Unfortunatly the only water will be lakes and rivers but it has 2million acres that are only available to loggers and sportsman. No horses, quads, bikes etc.

I go up there every year for a week and rent a cabin and it's a lot of fun in a remote area.

If you don't mind backpacking in about five miles, the Cutler Bold Coast trail (google it) has some absolutely amazing primitive campsites overlooking the sea. Well worth it if you're up to it, and like all the best things in life, free. If you're not into hiking in, Cobscook Bay State park has some very nice campsites on the water as well.

...and if you're just looking for some great trails and mountains to hike, with less focus on the camping element you can always head my way--Bar Harbor! Mount Desert Island is, like, 75% national park, and I can give you some suggestions on some great out-of-the way locations. Also, if you come this way, check out the shop I work at! We even have BM Gold Classes! It'd be great to chat with a fellow forumite face-to-face. :D

thanks guys, great suggestions. ever since having to retire from an on the job injury...I am afraid long hikes are out. I will look into the Cobscook Bay area...saw that on the website.
I would also be open to Desert Island suggestions..thats Acadia Nat'l right?

42blades...if I make it to Acadia area, I will let you know..love to meet up with another blade addict...lol
