Maintaining CRKs factory edge

Not to be a hater or anything, just an observation:
What is the purpose of going up to 10,000 grit or using a 30 degree inclusive edge angle.
I understand using 10,000 grit for razors, and 30 degree edges for wood carving.
But for every day usage, I think 40 degrees, and maybe 1000 grit polish is more than enough.
What all are you guys using your Sebenzas for?

WOT?!!1!!

Why whittling atoms of course :p

CRK's just aren't CRK's if they don't at least whittle hair :D

Honestly I just like the finish, but I've never had anything over 4000 grit in my household, you 10,000 grit guys are nuts :o

If I'm understanding you Medic, you (or CRK) is saying to get the very outermost cutting edge of the blade sharp in a V grind method and then bringing it back into convex with your strop to follow up? I think that would work. :)

Not exactly. What I was saying was, since CRK suggests using the sharpmaker at 40 degrees per side, then setting the Wicked Edge at the settings I mentioned would ensure you strop the actual edge depending on the pressure used. If you need more than the strops to touch up the edge, then use the finest stone you need to get the edge sharp at 20 degrees per side on the Wicked Edge. Same idea would apply to owners of the Edge Pro too.

If you don't dull the heck out of your knife first stropping will bring back that hair grabbing edge. I usually strop mine every couple of days when carrying it depending on use.
