It is not for a lack of leadership within the military, it is the civilian leadership of the leadership in the military that is causing all of the problems.

There are and always will be great men/women in the military as there are and always will be crappy men/women in the military.
 
wow...it's amazing how the death of someone can bring such differing emotions...i think i am going to go back and read BoB again...what an inspiring man!
 
As soon as I read BoB, that guy was my hero. I've always wondered where the real leaders are in our society, and under what circumstances they'll rise up to deal life's challenges. And they'll always say "I'm not the hero"

Now why would any logical person ban you for your opinion?

I don't think there is a soul on this forum that doesn't appreciate each and EVERY man that wears the uniform. ESEE does its best to show that every day through means you have no knowledge of. We firmly support our troops. But, as you, I have a right to my opinion on how totally screwed up some things were handled. I don't know what good or bad you may have done in your career because I don't know you, as you don't know me. I do appreciate you serving, but there are a LOT of people who have served and many of them will agree with you and many will agree with me. So, we don't really get upset with one man displaying an elitist attidue because it's simply one man's opinion. We dont just ban people around here because of their feelings and opinions. You jump to conclusions way too fast about who I am and how I feel. Wearing your heart on your sleeve will get you no points on this forum. So, get pissed off if you must, sell all your ESEE's in the Exchange Forum if you want, never post again if you want, but give every man his due when it comes to opinions. I don't need to go pound SAND (BTW: it's "sand" not "sound") because I'm comfortable in my beliefs and who I am. Personally speaking, it sounds to me like you are feeling a bit slighted by us praising a hero and not praising your accomplishments in life.
 
For those interested in reading more about Maj. Dick Winters and the men of Easy Company, definitely make time to read, "Beyond Band of Brothers: The War Memoirs of Major Dick Winters".

Reading this book is like having Major Winters sitting around your camp fire and telling the experiences of Easy Company. He was such an absolute humble gentleman, and only wanted his men of Easy Company to always be remembered and never forgotten.

you need to calm down no matter what your personal thoughts of the wars may be, especially as a commissioned officer on a public forum. i don't think anyone was being disrespectful of our nations resources. i have also been on more than a handful of deployments between the two countries and i don't ever forget that i volunteered for that, just like you did. its what our nation requires of it's fighting force no matter how just or unjust we may think the cause to be. we don't get to directly elect our political leaders and therefore will not always agree with what we are asked to do.

keep in mind that major winters and most others who fought for this country up through and including the vietnam war didn't always have a choice in the matter. this thread was about respecting his accomlishments and life, not taking away from anyone else's.
