Makarov

Noah Zark, I'm jealous of your collection. They are great guns, and not just for the money - I think they would be great guns if they cost $350+ apiece.

I have a question. How do you like the "BB" mak? I was thinking of getting one for practice, but I read that they are built on the doublestack commercial frame, and I was concerned with the grips bulk. How does it compare to the standard grip?

If you like, I can e-mail you a picture of my modified Glock sight so you can see what I'm talking about (don't know how to post pics yet)

Thanks for the links Jeremiah, I'll have to consider that.;)
Please send me the pix of your Glock. That's something I might try and then use one of the flourescent orange fingernail polishes on the front sight. ;)
It's not big enough to glue a piece of orange plastic on like I did my Ruger. The original inset fell out so I fixed it the best way I could, it worked. :D

I had the chance to buy a Makarov a few years ago for $100, but I had just blown all my cash on a Glock. It was a nice gun but I heard that it won't feed hollowpoints since it was a military issue weapon. Is that true?

I've only tried CCI hollow point ammo, but it has fed flawlessly through my Mak. I invented a simple test that is likely more academic then practical, and that wont work with all gun designs as some, particularly rifles, need the bullets nose to feed. My test is to load up a few empty casings into the magazine. First let the slide go forward slow and see if and where it catches. If it doesn't catch, rack the slide again and let it slam forward repeat with the rest of the casings. To me, if a gun will feed an empty case, then you could load any width hollow point in it you want, and it won't matter. If the nose of the bullet doesn't contact anything, then there is no need to worry about the hollow point catching on feeding, Tokarev and Makarov pistols, at least the few I have handled pass this informal test perfectly. Most 22's won't. Bersa thunder 380’s won’t. Glocks bulge over the feed ramp, and I don't want to try to remove a stuck case because the bulge is jammed against the chamber walls.

My 2cents - and that plus a buck won't buy you a cup of coffee.
