Make a black finish on the actual steel of a knife handle.

I am wondering if there is a process to make something similar (at least in function as these) so I can have an all steel knife w/out need of a separate handle.

P.S. Burt Foster is a really great guy with awesome knives.

Burt just forged the knife from 1/4" or thicker stock and when done, etched the blade in FC to blacken it. He heavily hammer worked the tang and blade to get a high relief texture.
You are correct, Burt is a great guy.

I like that knife. It's a bit different and I think that's what appeals to me.
