Hi Guys,
I am starting a blog series on making knives and this is the first of many. this is the link to the first part. tackettknives.blogspot.com
please tell me if there is anything I should add to this part. thank you

Pictures are critical to attract readers and keep their attention.
Take good quality photos with a real camera (not cell phone) and use the Save For Web feature in Photoshop so that pictures don't slow down the page loading.

Second, the layout/organization of the blog. I'd do a whole post about handle materials, a post about steel, a post about epoxies... Stretch it out to keep readers coming back, rather than cramming it all into a single page.

Also, something that jumped out at me, the article author is Charlie Tackett. On the right side is a link, About Me, Laura Tackett. Odd, to say the least. ;)

I was using my moms account.

I guessed that.

Why not sign up for your own free blogger account, either at blogspot or wordpress. As a parent I want to keep an eye on what my kid's doing online, but I don't want my own accounts affected should he jack something up. :)

Here's a photography website I do from Wordpress software: www.ratonphotos.com
You could do something similar for free using the wordpress.com website.
Our company website is also done with Wordpress, but it's a mess so I won't post the name. :o

Take your time, time to create content (pictures and writing) and time to learn the software. And don't be afraid to toss the whole thing and start over a couple of times.

You can also practice on your own computer (for free) using this software: http://www.instantwp.com/
And if you don't even have your own computer, it's still no problem; InstantWP is completely portable and can run from a flash drive.

Its always best to write about what you know. Do you have experience making knives or are you gathering the information from around the internet?

If you've never made a knife, maybe you could document your experience learning how to do so.

Either way, Bob's advice is great.

Your writing should be balanced with your level of knowledge, make sure you do not paint yourself into a corner with your writing. ALWAYS leave room for you to be wrong, unless you can prove you are 100% correct.

That's great! I'd say you should make that clear in the blog. Saying "I reccomend..." implies that you have a great deal of experience and have tried multiple options.

If you can't get your own account to fill in a bio page (which would be best), maybe the first post should be a short biography. You could explain that you're a young beginner learning how to make knives and are sharing your methods and experiences.

Good luck and keep at it! I'll be on the lookout for pictures.

I added a poll to the top of my blog. I want to see what people favorite handle material is and I will make a knife with that handle material.
